After about a 6 month hiatus from EQ2 I decided to play it some more. So I reactivated my account and fired up the launcher as usual. After the sizable update, I was able to get into the game ok, and began playing. First thing I did was zone back to my guild hall, but during the zone loading process, it got up to "Waiting for Entities" and just stopped. After about 1.5-2 mins, I was kicked to character sheet, and I get the same result any time I try to log back in with that, or another character who I also tried to go to the guild hall with.

I have a third low level toon in FrostFang Sea, who I can log in as and run around. but am unable to zone anywhere else. I either get to the same "waiting for entities" then CS when I try and zone, or sometimes I only get to "waiting for zone server" and it kicks me to CS after about 5 seconds. When it does log me into Frostfang sea, it loads quickly and as expected.

Needless to say I've never had this issue before.

So.. things I've tried so far,

Remove custom UI's

Remove UI dir and update

Remove Cache dir and update,

remove any server or characted specific files and update,

Reboot modem and router,

Forward the varios EQ2 ports directly to my PC, (tho this should make no difference and is in theory unnecessary)

Reboot PC (because someone would ask if I have)

All software firewalls disabled, All drivers updated. Router (dd-wrt, see below) firewall off.

Things I haven't yet tried (but plan to try when I next have a chance)

Plug PC straight into ADSL modem

Remove un-needed peripherals (sound card, additional graphics card, additional hdd etc)

None of the above have affected the problem at all

Googling around the issues seems to have occurred a number of times, but I can't find anything newer than 2-3 years old, and as I've been away from EQ2 I haven't been keeping up with the latest bugs. I also can't find any reference to "waiting for entities" on this forum.

PC and Network config

PC

Asus P7P55D-E Pro

Intel Core i7 860

Nvidia GTX 465 SLI

4x2GB DDR3 1333 Transcend

3x OCZ Vertex 2 60GB (Raid 0)

Soundblaster Audigy SE sound card.

Network Config

Netgear WNDR3700 running DD-WRT

Draytek Vigor 120 ADSL modem Bridged with netgear

3Com 8port Gigabit Switch.

ADSL Interleaving off.

This has been a solid PC and network setup for the last 6 months at least, and I've had no stability issues with anything.

No issues with any NAT in the past. UPNP working as expected with other apps. PC is wired to the network not wifi.

While it's been overclocked in the past, the PC is currently running stock volts and speed. Everything is factory.

Short of deleting the entire and re-downloading the entire thing I'm a bit stumped. (also stumped as to why this post decided to have double spacing half way through)

So.. any ideas? Any suggestions? I'm about willing to try anything.

Update:

Last night I did the following troubleshooting steps.

1, Tried it on a different connection (tethered to my Android moblie phone through my cell network) No change

2, Copied my EQ2 folder to my wife's machine, Still stops at "waiting for entities"

3, Took my wife's EQ2 folder (she used to play also), put my paks dir into her dir, (to avoid a massive download) then ran the launcher. (was still updating when I went to bed so not sure on this)

4, Disabled sound blaster Audigy. (long shot but..) no change

5, Disabled SLI (my machine has 2xGTX 465's wife's has GTX295) No change

6, Re-enabled page file No change.

7, Found an older EQ2 dir backed up on a portable drive (created 30.Jan.2010) Copied that to my work laptop that has never had EQ2 on it. Set it to update at work on the work internet connection. Once that was done it loaded correctly and worked, albeit slowly as my work laptop only has Intel 4 series gfx, but it did work.

So next up is to take this working EQ2 dir.. fire it onto my home machine, and see if that works. It's currently sitting on an Esata attached external drive, so nice and easy to just run it off this drive at home.

Other info I failed to note before. All machines I have are running Win 7 Pro x64. The ISP, to the best of my knowledge, doesn't block or shape and traffic or ports, and 150wkw in a 1000kg NA car, is a lot of fun.

Will update further tonight.
