I am not certain what is causing this, but it seems to be related to someone on a gryphon with shiny or silver armor. I first noticed it in Storm Gorge, but have since seen it a couple of times elsewhere.

FPS will drop dramatically, from around 20-50 down to 1 or 2. If I can manage to move a few yards away it goes back to normal. Never saw this with anything else. It is about 99% certain it is gryphon related, but most gryphons only affect it slightly, so there is also some other factor at work. The common factor seems to be that shiny and/or silver armor is also a cause, but hard to tell because often several are in the area.

Running an AMD Radeon 5870 display card with Win7.

I do want to see if this is related to another reported issue we have. Does disabling the SOGA models alleviate the issue altogether for you?

I was trying it with SOGA off but the zone crashed as we got to last part of Storm Gorge Public Quest. I had SOGA models off. Every extra turned off. All sliders to the far left. I went down to 4-8fps. Running an Intel Core 2 Duo 6850 3.0 Ghz 4GB ram and an ATI HD 5870 1GB. I've even tried the Beta driver 11.4 but no good. Most areas at that setting I get 70-100 fps

I've had to do an AMD feed back for a cursor getting stuck issue. 10.10e was last driver that did not have issue. Playing in windowed mode alleviates the cursor problem but doesn't help or make worse the lag issue.

While lag is happening I see 52% cpu usage and 1.98 GB ram used. CPU temp peaks at 63C and GPU is peaking at 52C Using Windows 7 64 bit OS.

I want to make sure people understand that what I proposed as a "fix" - typing "/soga_models 0" when you have this problem is different than going into your graphics settings and turning soga models off. I always run with Soga off and have still had this issue. It fixes itself for me by typing "/soga_models 0" - some people are saying that they turned Soga models off and it didn't help but I think the issue isn't directly related to your graphics menu settings. I think it's related to stuff like Trak where he would dissappear completely until you did the soga reset (type "/soga_models 0"). For those of you saying that turning Soga off doesn't help - don't just go in to your graphics settings and turn them off - you have to type, "/soga_models 0" - or at least that's worked for me and others.

Gyphonst + *Something* certainly = video lockup for some people (such as myself).

But not for everyone. And not always. And seemingly only at certain angles.

And, if it happens, and you /quit to yourself, it goes away, and stays away for a good long while, even if the troublesome user is still on the screen.

Since I run into it fairly regularly in PQ's, I'll try the /soga 'fix' and see if it helps.

I have seen it most often in PQ's. But I also saw it during the gnomish air-races (landed in an area with lots of Gryphons), And I've seen it a few times in Paniel. The culprit just flew by and froze my screen, but when I recovered, he was long gone, and I couldn't get a name or examine in time.

Ooohhh...I've had this a few times myself....I did wonder....

I'll be moving around and all of a sudden , 1 fps , lots of staggering , after 5-10 seconds it'd clear up , but I was never sure what was causing it.

I did start to notice that there was someone on a griffon flying away from me a few times...maybe that was why.

I never use soga and I'm using an ATI card.

For those of you trying to disable SOGA models to fix the issue, please read this quote as it is very specific on how you must do it. Of course, a workaround is not a solution and I am doing everything I can to get all of the relavent information and reproduce the issues so that we can get a permanent fix in place.

I have the same problem. My videocard completely locks up and i can barely move. After a few seconds my screen moves again. It must be related to some pc characters ingame because it happens alot on PQs when theres 20-40 people on my screen. As soon as i look into another direction where noone stands my video unfreezes again. The moment i turn the camera arround again my screen moves up. This is definitly not normal video lag because ive got a super machine that easily handles 50 people on the screen. Its the server who usually dies before my machine actually starts lagging

And since im on a pvp server this is even more bad. Ive been killed quite a few times while my screen locked up. Seems that some people know how to take advantage with this bug. It must be some type of memory leak and i do hope you guys find a fix for this.

I have not seen this so much lately, but it may be because fewer people are showing off their new gryphons ;p

I had soga models turned off, but will try the "/soga_models 0" method to see if that helps.

This is a solution only when you get crippling FPS lag. If you suddenly get the unusally crippling FPS lag, typing "/soga_models 0" will rerender all characters and fix the crippling lag IF it's a character rendering issue. There are other causes of FPS lag, though, but this one is a way to fix character rendering bugs that are causing them.
