View Full Version : DoV Gear: Riposte on scout gear?

Does anybody have any clue why so much of the DoV scout gear has riposte chance and riposte damage? How often are scouts going to be having aggro so they can have a chance to parry and then a chance to riposte if they do parry?Very very minor potential for usefulness when soloing, completely useless in grouping if your tank is 1/2 way decent.

And what about throwing weapons ? Now satchel are brawler only, none of the velious ones are scout usable. So i have to use a bow but my two ranged CA can only be used with satchel...

I agree 100%. The faction gear from the Othmir is just very hard to justify using because they put 5% reposte damage instead of multi attack, crit chance, dps, or even +slashing, etc. on it.

I know it's similar with all scouts. But particularly on my Ranger. I try to never, ever be in melee range of anything unless I am behind it. Thus I almost never reposte anything.

If they were to swap out the riposte damage for multi-attack, even a relativelt small amount, much of this gear would become incredibly useful and class appropriate.

One of these days I'm going to drive over to SONY HQ and ask them why they do things like this. I know there's probably good reasoning. Don't know what it is, but then I'd be a game developer if I could figure stuff like this out lol. Maybe if I go bearing gifts of chocolate, I might even get answers

The reason they did this is simple. Ezekeil in beta lobbied for it and they listened. Lot of folks said it was bad and Dev's said it was just they solo quest stuff they added it to to make soloing easier. This was a lie becuase group rewards have it as well.

Basically when you add

a. There is no quality assurance on who gets into beta,

b. The fact that most of the testing was done by over-geared players from SF (testing with the guide that cleared everything SF weeks before everyone else is probably a poor sample for your average playerbase)

c. A lack of a class manifesto or design guide to base assessments from.

d. The Item Dev is clueless on itemization. Examples include: Reposte on lots of group aquired (solo stuff is wrong too) scout gear, huge amounts of DPS on fighter gear.

e. Horrible progression in zones.

f. GNINJA must have a secret way to by-pass QA because there is no way half of his stuff is tested or even passes a basic sanity test.

You end up with constant "adjustments", an unhappy userbase and and a general fail experience for the expansion.

Riposte on scout gear = asanine. Tons of capped dps on tank gear = moronic. Deflection on plate tank gear = stupid. All together = Someone for whatever reason couldn't be arsed learning even the fundamentals of this game enough to do thier job properly. Also Umbu, even rangers are melee. They just happen to be able to do 80 - 90% of thier dps at ranged. Either way though, riposte is equally dumb. I get a little more annoyed every time I see yet another piece with it on. I stopped counting at around 25.

+dps helps all scouts.

+multi attack helps all scouts.

+attack speed helps all scouts.

+riposte sucks for most and is only situationally useful for some. Were scouts somewhere asking for this?

Yes and no on the +dps. It does help till you cap of course, which is pretty easy to do in a raid and groups and these days my SK caps solo.

My assassin caps dps solo too and I've been known to pick lesser gear just because it has no DPS mod and I'm sick of seeing the worthless stat. I have this fantasy that SOE keeps track of what gear we choose and use and that it somehow gets referenced when evaluating new gear.

I also have fantasies involving redheads that are probably more realistic.

I am well aware of where it comes from and if you want to get technical it comes from adornments, procs and buffs in addition to the tank gear. I used the SK as an extreme example because my Brigand caps easily in groups or raids but can not solo (she isn't far though). Hoss has attested that capping on dps is not hard on scouts, and he is far from the only one I have seen.

My point is dps is so often capped on multiple characters these days having large amounts of it on gear quickly becomes redundant. As it's cap is relatively low it would be much better to stick more of an uncapped stat like MA or CB or Potentcy.

Sorry Onorem, I do agree +dps is more useful than riposte, without a doubt. At least it is till it is capped of course then yet another item with +20 dps is as useless as riposte, and it hurts when we are getting that in lieu of an uncapped stat that would continue to add benefits.

In short it is useful to a point, then it becomes useless. The problem is it is easy to get to that point. Hence the yes and no.

Can you riposte an AOE? If so, then i'd say its more valuable.
