I *REALLY* need help with this because it is driving me absolutely nuts. Blarghlarghlargh.

I upgraded my video card because my old one went kaput. Installed new drivers cleanly, updated Direct X... and now I keep getting the STRANGEST graphical glitches that require the computer be reset. On RARE occasion, I can camp to myself and it will be rectified for a few minutes. From least to most severe, here are examples of my strange issues (computer, not personal! Jeeeeez):

I call this one "Reflections":

I call THIS one 'Magic":

I call this one "I Am Icon":

I call this one "Fae Wing Surprise":

And I call this one "Profit is the Devil":

This one I call "Icons on Rye":

And THIS one, I call "Pixel Raiders":

I swear that looks like a graphic card overheating, or maybe a power supply issue.

Hmmm. Maybe I should try even MORE cooling?

Have you tried running another game to see if it has problems? That would narrow it down to either a software problem or corrupt file for EQ2, or a hardware issue in your box.

I dont know your proficiency with working on a computer, but if you know a little about them I would first remove your vid card and make sure its fully seated and locked in and retry, if nogo I would take the cpu cooler off and put some new thermal paste on it, and while I was there I would unseat the ram and make sure there was no dust around the connectors, then reseat it and try again.

Also, going to try putting the card in the secondary slot this time - maybe it's a slot issue.

Just curious, when you upgraded the power supply, what brand or model did you get? It is not outside the realm of impossibility that the power supply is giving you trouble with not sending the right voltages.

If your motherboard has a program to monitor the power and heat, I would suggest looking at those while playing the game. Asus motherboards typically have a program called AI Probe that does this. The program can even be set to give an audible alarm if there is a problem.

Other than that, if this is a new card and its having that trouble in game, it might be defective.

Nvidia has Nvidia System Tools that will monitor your GPU temperatures. Give us a reading while in game.

Overheating or PSU issues are quite different. Either hard lockups, random artifacts, or bluescreens. This looks more like a hardware issue, the actual card.

I know you said you're tech savvy, but have you tried different drivers? I haven't owned nVidia in awhile, so i don't know what their most current versions are, so do you have that? If you do, try rolling back to older versions.

If you have another computer, try the GPU in that one, and see if you experience the same problems. If you do, it's the card. If you don't have another computer, reinstall Windows, but if it persists, it probably the card.
