View Full Version : No CC? What else offers complexity?

I recently started playing EQ2 again for the first time since a brief stint with it in 2005. I'm an altaholic, so I've been leveling up a bunch of different classes. I rolled an Illusionist because I longed for the EQ1 Enchanter days - keeps up (de)buffs and mezzing everything in sight was the most fun I've EVER had in any MMO to date. It was amazingly complex and fun and I liked having to use my brain to play.

However, after healing a few dungeons on my Templar and reading the Illusionist forums, it seems CC is dead and EQ2 has become the same AoE suckfest that WoW has become. It also seems like they don't get very many buffs that people still need. This is extremely disappointing news to me.

Are there any other classes that offer any amount of complexity whatsoever, similar to the EQ1 Enchanter experience? Even my Templar is just reactive heal, reactive heal, reactive heal. Boring. I'm really enjoying the variety of everything in EQ2, but without complexity I'm going to get very bored quickly. Help =(

Cool stuff is only temporary. It gets taken away eventually.

CC = Crowd Control, and it was a big part of eq1 for the longest time.

It all depends how and who you play with. I play a coercer and the group of guildies that I would level up with had me mezzing and controlling constantly, not to mention keeping everyones power up. if you are doing random pick up groups with people they may not entirely know what enchanters can do, most just assume you are a power battery and dps and that they don't need CC when they can just AoE everything and heal through the rest of the damage.

It's also been my experience that when you do get in a group and you are expected to do some CC, there are others in the group who have absolutely no idea what their own spells do and will constantly break your mezzes.

Best thing to do, make an illusionist / coercer and find a group of people you can level up with and learn each others play styles much more enjoyable that way. I totally recommend runnyeye in the lower levels for some CC practice loads of social goblins.

Thank you for the explanation.

Why are people saying crowd control is dead or that it is useful again in the new expansion (which suggests to me it is not useful below level 80)?

I have an illusionist, but he is poorly geared right now and has only grouped once or twice.

I had a different illusionist 2 years ago and grouped a lot. He did quite a bit of crowd control.

So, I am confused about what has changed in the last 2 years to make crowd control "dead".

My 90 Shadowknight could pull rooms full of mobs, it was impossible for me to die in there as stuff was so easy with the shadowknight. And since stuff is so easy you dont need anyone crowd controlling them. Usually i directly told any chanter to not touch the mobs with mezzes as it would slow us down since shadowknight is an aoe class. Things changed in this xpack. Mobs are hard, you dont want to pull 2, let alone 3. Without a mezzer it will result in death in this early state of the xpack.
