Just set up a new computer. I5 processor, 8GB memory, Nvidia 460 graphics, Windows 7 64 bit. DirectX 11. Everything runs fine apart from EQ2. Can play Pirates of the Burning Sea fine running two accounts on the one PC.

EQ2 can get into the game but if I drop to the desktop or another window or switch between my main and an alt when running two accounts I get a Black Window and usually a crash. Reading the forums - tried to install DirectX 9.0c which EQ says will run in tandem with DirectX 11- tried the link to microsoft site for the download but it will not let you install - you just get a mesage telling you that there is no need as you already have the latest version and no other options.

Just bought two of the Velious expansions and now I can't play. There must be lots if other people running Windows 7. Tried various compatability modes buy always with the same result. Tried older Nvidia drivers including the current set but still the same problem.

Tried to add the required System info to this post but I get messages that I am exceeding the maximum number of characters - even for just the DxDiag stuff?

When I get the black screen I get a message box saying 'The options definition file failed to load'.

Give this link for DirectX 9.0c a try instead. It is not the webupdater and will allow you to install it. The webupdater sees your DirectX 11 and stops. Once downloaded, it will prompt you to extract it to a folder, you can choose any you know how to get to. Browse to that folder and run the DXSETUP file.

[DX9] June 2010

Tried that. No joy. Still happens. Game seems fine till you leave the screen then it dies. Get this message. Options error. The options definitions file failed to load. If you leave it for about 30 seconds it comes back to life sometimes.

it just needs a folder to extract the files into(not install to)...you would then open this folder and run the install or setup file..dxsetup will know where the files needs to go

so for example you might create a new folder on youre desktop called DXSETUP then tell it extract in to this...

hope this helps
