Just past the door where there is a 4-way road my screen will flicker black and flash and then I will get a Display Driver Windows kernal mode Has Stopped Responding and Successfully Recovered message. Sometimes on the steps near the city writs npcs.

If I look down the whole time it will be less of a issue and only freezes up for a second and doesn't recover message me, I am using a gtx280 FTW edition evga card with 266.58 driver (Core 59c ambient 47c). I tried an even older driver and I even tried a beta driver and with the same result. A few times it was so bad it would freeze for 10mins and I would have to end proccess of EQ2. I tried to toggle on and off various display settings to see if it would help.

This seems to be only in Thugadin and only with EQ2, I play a few other games and they all work ok on any of the drivers I tried.

Anyone else having a similar issue and or had an issue like this before?

Is that core temperature reading idle? 12C seperation from ambient seems unusual under load, stock. The important reading would be at the time of the error.

The case is well vented those temps are fairly locked for load, even during the driver errors, I even monitored the voltage and there was no change for core or VRM.

Same exact problem in the same exact place.

Error is:

Display driver NVIDIA windows kernel mode driver, version 266.58, stopped responding and has successfully recovered.

The "successfully recovered" portion isn't correct. Same error cycle just keep repeating until I shut down the program. Just trying to log that toon on starts the errors. Sent my DXDIAG information to TSR-JoshuaM.

Same error. I constanatly monitor my computer temps for video and CPU and neither were even close to over heating. That is what I thought at first.

It happens when I climb the stairs next to the tradeskill area. I will get a loc and screenshot when the servers come back up. It has caused 2 lockups for me since launch. Other times it just flickers, freezes for a bit, then recovers.

The patch, whatever it was, did not correct the problem. I still have a stuck character and constant errors when I try to log in. Since it seems the character select option is no longer part of the log-in menu playing a different toon isn't an option either.

Well this morning I decided to swap out my video card with a spare 8800 gts (originally was a 280gtx FTW, see 1st post) that was sitting in my closet, I did a driver clean in safe mode and reinstalled drivers for it. The same error is occuring and even started doing it in my guild hall near some bright lights.

I was having similar issues in Thurgadin as well. It was happening in the crafting area and part of the hall in the roundabout immediately outside the crafting area. Zooming the camera in real close to your character and looking straight down at the ground seems to help avoid issues in that area.

I am presently stuck in Thurgadin with my main. I enter the city (Or whatever you want to call it) and my display begins to flash and freeze up wildly, and all I can do is close out of the window, because it's completely unplayable.

This issue happens to me as well (haven't noticed such a thing during the beta). However my game doesn't crash I just can't move anymore as several polygons disappear which causes a heavy fps drop.OS: Windows 7 x64Graphiccard: Nvidia GTX 275Driver: 266.58 (updated to the latest but that doesn't help at all)As far as I can say my system seems to have issues with several animated textures which then causes this polygon issue which again causes the fps drop.I was able taking a screenshot of such a texture.
I figured out what's causing the video problem, well the trigger anyway. I was having exactly the same thing happening in my guild hall, in the crafting room, thats what made me realise when it started happening in Thurgadim near the crafting area to and light dawned. It's the two tradeskill writ npcs that are the trigger for the problem, no idea why, but it's definitely them. If you get close to them wham screen starts going black, jagged colours, computer locking up.

Anyway to confirm my theory, I moved the writ npcs from my guild hall crafting room, very gingerly at long distance, and the graphics problem ceased. I got a bit to close to the second one and crashed the computer, but after that was removed, bingo, I could go into the crafting room and whizz round and round with no problems whatsover. Ive got them quarantined now in an adjoining room with a barrier at the door lol so you can just about click them but not get close enough to cause the graphics problem.

I have an 8800 gtx graphics card to, updated the drivers when this problem started.

Hope this helps. I sent it in a bug report about it in game as well.

......................

Ok scrap the above, had it happen again in the middle of the crafting room.
Hrmmm....I dunno.

I get these same errors and I have always had reflections on. In fact just reproduced it in Thurgadin, Nek Forest, and Sanctom of the Scaleborn.

It does seem to be some sort of particle effect or reflection that causes the issue though. When I turn my camera a certain direction the screen turns black and my display driver goes crazy...game freezes...things on both my monitors lock up. But, it seems the game is still going and if I catch it before my driver resets, I can turn my camera view (even though my screen is black) and things go back to normal (as long as I dont look in that direction that caused the issue to begin with).

If the display driver DOES end up resetting the issue usually goes away 100% for a certain length of time.

I seriously hope the fix will get rid of this problem, but at least for me it doesn't look like turning reflections on will (since I have always had them on anyway)

This is not a new problem for me, but DoV has definitely made the problem much worse. Water does seem to be a common factor, but as said, the crafting area in Thurgadin has caused this issue as well. In addition, doing the races, I was at one point having a major issue with this while flying over the lava, as well as while walking around the Butcherblock docks.

I'm running on a dual monitor system, and the black streaks appear on both monitors, in game, as well as anything in the other monitor, so it's glitching the card pretty bad. These black streaks don't cover the entire screen, it's almost like someone was taking thick and thin brushes of black paint and drawing across the screen in various thickness horizontally, and not consistenly thick from left to right.. This doesn't happen all the time while in the impacted areas, but it seems once it starts, sometimes it will go for several seconds and resolve itself, or it might do this for several seconds, stop for a short time, repeat itself back and forth several times until most times the video drivers crash, or finally it'll do this without the on/off/on/off glitching pattern. When the drivers finally do crash, the screen will go black for about 1-2 seconds then come back up with the windows error we've been seeing. After that, it will be good for a time again until it decides to act up. Also I would like to add at one point it started adding a weird pattern of colored dots all over my screen, but this was a onetime occurence that lasted about 3 seconds. This had occurred while doing the other typical behavior of the black flashes.

As said, before Velious, it was rare, but it did happen before.

Wanted to add that it happened again with reflections on water turned on. This time it took a lot longer to recover, I'd say 15-20 seconds of black screen before the game came back. Friend I was running with said it looked like I kept running forward and snapping back into place(rubberbanding from the sounds of it)

I just ran through the area where it always happened to me in Thugadin, and was scrolled completely back in 3rd person mode, and didn't have a flicker. Seems they must have fixed something. Because I've not been able to do this yet until now.

I wasn't sure if I should start a new thread or not, but I have a video problem in Thurgadin.

The floor never renders for me in the Thurgadin crafting area. Never. No matter what video settings I'm in. I can fly around, but unless what I need is near a box I can land on I can't interract.

@Wookin

Which patcher are you using? Station Launcher (multi-game) or the EQII LaunchPad?

Station Launcher and the EQII LaunchPad Full version both contain a PAK folder which contains all of the zone files. I would suggest starting with the instructions I have below, and then deleting all thurgadin files in the PAK folder if you have one.

If you are using our Streaming version of the EQII LaunchPad, you have an asset_cache folder instead and it does not contain zone specific files (they are all packaged in large asset archives instead). For this, clear your cache from the LaunchPad options and perform a full scan. Do that once you have also run through the instructions below.

You may want to make backups and then delete the following files and folders:

cache folder

eq2_recent.ini

eq2_default.ini

EverQuest2.exe

eq2.ini

As well as the character specific files, these will appear as such:

Servername_CharacterName_EQ2_uisettings.ini

Stationname_characters.ini

To do this, please follow these directions:

1. First look for your EverQuest II directory. You can find the default directory in (for Windows XP): C:Program FilesSonyEverQuest II (for Windows Vista/7): C:Program DataSony Online EntertainmentInstalled GamesEverQuest II

2. Click on MY COMPUTER and then proceed into local disk C:

3. Navigate your way to the default directory, or your chosen installation directory.

4. Next look for any files explained above and delete them.

5. Afterwards, please start EverQuest II to have these files re-downloaded by the patcher.

If deleting these files does not resolve your issue, you can restore your backed up files and folders and retain your hotkeys, contact lists, and display settings.

Thanks, Josh. But, um, I think I'd rather not craft than redo all my characters' settings. LOL Wow.
