You do realize that not every player wants combat that makes them rest after every encounter, or having to fight mobs longer than 10 seconds outside of heroics, right? Your zeal for what you like will not appeal to every casual gamer.

As for grouping, look at RoK and look at the complaints about forced grouping.

I am not sure you understand what a casual gamer is, or what they would like.

As for public questing, that is old hat in MMOs. Truly, they are not that impressive all the time. Some people like them, some do not. I personally like the idea, and have done them in other MMOs, but I refuse to wait for the next queue when I can be doing other things to level up and play. Being in the middle of something when your time comes up is annoying, and trying to do a public quest when you have a limited time, (As in less then 2 hours), can be frustrating for those not accustomed to them.

As for flight. It's an old hat in MMO's. I doubt it is any better than V:SOH whose graphical world was very stunning. Glad you enjoyed it though, and I am sure I will as well.

This may sound like pessimisim, but in reality, I am simply trying to ground your statements. EQ2 puts out some OK expansions, and the last few have been lackluster. This may or may not appeal to everyone, and it sounds like to me, you are a hardcore player, and are trying to let the casual player know how much fun they will have, when as I read it, they are in for a lots of frustration, judging by what you said.

Personally, Odus, and Velious, were never fun zones for me. I stayed on Luclin for close to 50 levels in old EQ1, and I liked the difficulty there. Sure, the drops sucked, and the quest lines, while interesting, lacked decent rewards, but I loved the zones. As the wife and I have just picked up both SoF, and DoV at the same time, I am hoping the areas are better than the EQ1 equivelants. You are not giving me any encouragement on DoV though. It sounds like it will be a pain for crafters.

caster/scout then I can see a point here. However, those classes are fairly use to this type of throttling mechanic already. They live with it every day to some degree already. This will effect the other classes that have always destroyed open zone content that will be the ones in the more of a surprise. “What? I have to single pull mobs and not AoE down a dozen at a time, this is stupid!”)

As for grouping, look at RoK and look at the complaints about forced grouping.

<span style="color: Really!?! You’re not forced to group as you’re not forced to dungeon crawl. Maybe you’re referring to the lack of solo instances but I certainly doubt you mean RoK Heroic instances should have been solo-able at launch.)

Being in the middle of something when your time comes up is annoying, and I think they are done in a decent way. There is a lot of room to grow and improve them so we’ll see where this leads, but 2 hours? I get the feeling you are counting the time from one finishing, waiting for the next to begin and the new one finishing, but even that isn’t two hours.)

As for flight. It's an old hat in MMO's. I doubt it is any better than V:SOH whose graphical world was very stunning. Glad you enjoyed it though, and I am sure I will as well.

(This is a natural progression in MMO’s in today’s market. However, when retrofitting flight I know that other MMO’s don’t bother going back and allowing flight in old zones. It’s kind of funny that SOE has retrofitted flight and not itemization and other MMO’s retrofit itemization and not flight. In short, I doubt flight will be any better then other MMO’s but this is based more on the graphics engine then anything else.)

This may sound like pessimisim (pessimism), but in reality, I am simply trying to ground your statements.

(Here is what a casual player, who is level 86 or greater, can expect from DoV. New solo quest line, PQ’s, TS Quests, Easy Armor Upgrades which are better then their Hardcore SF raiding buddies, flight in new and old content, additional AA abilities and an attempt as decent lore. Beyond that the itemization mechanics will favor the casual player much more heavily then the raiders, making them feel much stronger due to the easy armor and normalization of stats they are receiving.

This only leaves old world itemization and resistances unaddressed. To be honest the old world itemization is one bump higher then irrelevant. People playing in those low levels are not going to see much of a difference in their health and power stats. Having intelligence on your fighter gear or strength on your mage gear is in fact irrelevant. Either those desired effects will be coming from other sources (main stat or class) or they are not intended to be available in the first place by SOE. In any case the effect would be very minor so don’t come with the argument that fighters benefit from +20 int for their crit percent when we all know that .05% addition is both next to pointless and will be replaces from a strength or fighter passive benefit anyway.

Resists are being handled in a controlled way by gear slot. It looks like SOE is trying to limit stacking resists by doing this and that can be good and bad. It allows them to predict mob effectiveness when designing encounters. It also removes the ability of the player to circumvent those desired effects. Having a caster mob cast on a player with 10k spell resistant technically trivializes that content. The mob simply can’t hit you while you hit him for 10 DPS for the next hour and a half. We’ll all see how this plays out.)

Personally, Odus, and Velious, were never fun zones for me. I stayed on Luclin for close to 50 levels in old EQ1, and I liked the difficulty there. Sure, the drops sucked, and the quest lines, while interesting, lacked decent rewards, but I loved the zones. As the wife and I have just picked up both SoF, and DoV at the same time, I am hoping the areas are better than the EQ1 equivelants (equivalents). You are not giving me any encouragement on DoV though. It sounds like it will be a pain for crafters.

(I find this interesting, you find SoF (I assume Sentinel’s Fate) to be lackluster and you ‘just picked it up’? Not to mention that DoV includes SF as well as all previous content release. Perhaps you’re multiple ‘casual’ accounts were not synched as far as expansions go, which is not uncommon, but why propagate this issue by purchasing SF twice, once in SF and once in DoV when launch is today (2/22).

Further, its awesome you enjoyed SoL content so intensely that you were able to increase your level by almost 50 in an expansion which was designed to be a 10 level bump. I’m guessing there was a <named censored pet class here> involved here (Kerran Avatar). You call your self casual and claim that the OP is not only Hardcore but also doesn’t understand what ‘casuals’ like. Assuming players are of a type such as casual, hardcore or raider is too large a disparity, especially since some people find running the same content for dozens of levels more then they were designed or intended to be, as part of their game play. In general through, raiders don't make constructive threads as the OP attempted to do)
