It's been awhile since Vhalen left, so I'm going to assume it's safe to mention this.

Awhile back I was helping spread some lore for Vhalen through roleplaying. He mentioned once that I should start mentioning a "rumor" about the Tower of Rot, but he never revealed what it actually was to me.

Did lore ever go anywhere with this? I took a very long break from EQ2 and only recently returned.

(No, this did not get implemented as the Obelisk of Blight. I already confirmed that with Vhalen awhile back.)

Thanks!

Obelisk of Blight no...

Obelisk of Lost Souls.... yes.. "maybe"...

Theres some old posts by Vhalen somewhere around where he described the OOLS as a mythicaled place of dark arts and danger. I think he once said that OOLS was once called the Tower of Rot.

4/19/2007 was when he mentioned it wasn't the obelisk of blight, by the way. Maybe it was OOLS...though he made it sound like it was something in the works. Odd.

Thanks for the feedback.

There was some speculation that the Tower of Rot is what could vaguely be depicted with the tower that is sticking out of the Dead Hills, an area west of the Feerrott that was never turned into a zone in EQlive. Seems it was for EQOA though. There was a tower there, but not seemingly related to this one. It seems that area has become an island though. We really haven't heard of much else since then.

TSO introduced 5 more void anchors to Norrath. The one in Field of Bone, Lavastorm, Obelisk of Akasul, Anchor of Byzle, and Palace of Roehn Theer. There is no indication that any of these would be known as the Tower of Rot but you can't eliminate that possability. You can't even eliminate the possability that there are more anchors we arn't aware of.

It is also possible that the various non-vampire undead could of created something that was eventually refered to as the Tower of Rot. Though, this could also be a temple dedicated to Bertoxillus. Actually Bert sounds like he would be a major influence on anyone that would live in a Tower of Rot. I would say Anashti'sul wouldn't have anything to do with it since her motif is to claim Undeath as Eternal Life or Life Unending. Rot = decay which goes against Anashti's self-image.

If it isn't a refrence to one of the void anchors, I'd say it isn't in game.

I noticed this topic the other day and remembered that I found a book in the Nektropos Library that I don't recall being there before.

The book is called The Idol of Mor'Tael and it's lore involves this Tower of Rot that you're referring to. Might want to go read it. Doesn't shed much light on what exactly it is, but I enjoyed the read.

Thanks, overview of what he was mentioning:

"Dear family, Do not seek me for I am in oblivion. We have found eternal torment in the Tower of Rot. I offer our lives in exchange for this gift to my house. The masters of the manor shall all own the Idol of Mor'Tael. The legion of the one merchant shall be chosen and eternal prosperity shall rule the House of Everling."
