Hello all,

as the title says, I am wanting to replace my card(s) for one that will allow me to play EQ2 at maxed out settings (but not worried about shader 3.0, at least from what I have seen), and I will go into my spec so you can see and help me out

<table style="width: 100%; Will I see a increase of speed of load over a normal HD? And I am playing in 1920*1200 res. and I will be upgrading over the next 6 months to a 2560*1600. So here is my questions

1) Does EQ2 use SLI? And does Sli really do much for the game or would I do better with just one card? and what about Phx card? I have a old 9600 setting around I am not using.

2) What card or cards(if sli can be used with out destorying performance) would you suggest to use for those res with max graphic settings. 460, 570 or 580?

Thank you for your time and I am sure as you answer this question more will come up.

1, no.

2, either of those cards will do, you won't see 60+ fps in raids in max settings. this game is heavily cpu bound and even the new SB cpu's oc'd to 4.8-5ghz can't run the game in 60 fps in those settings

1) So there is no real reason to worry about getting 2 cards for this game right? what about the fact that I am running sli right now on the 260's that I have right now. Will that hurt my FPS? and would a Phyic card (9600gt) be worth messing with? And if I do run sli for game like Dragon age 2 and mass effect 3 etc, is there away to shut the sli off while playing EQ2?

2) So if I get a 580gtx and OC my CPU from 2.6 to 4.0 or so I would see a lot better then I am seeing now with my system?

1, i've seen people gain fps by turning off sli, i've never used 2 cards so i don't know where to turn it off. a physics card will not help eq2 but won't hurt it either, might be nice if you play other games.

2, the cpu OC will help for sure, but the gtx580 is way overkill for eq2, a gtx 460 or 560 will be enough. depending on what other games you play it might be worth getting the gtx580 though

and thats even using res 1920*1200 and in the future using 2560*1600 a 460 or 570 would be ok?

Just a note, but I find shader 3.0 on my ATI 4870 1Gb a boost to performance, so anything at that speed or above should get benefits from turning it on.

And EQ2 does not support dual graphics cards, so I'd not bother going with them (unless perhaps setting one to do AA - not sure if that's a boost?).

But even using res 1920*1200 and in the future using 2560*1600 a 570 would be ok?

What CPU and speed is it at? What kind of FPS are you getting?

Sorry, been busy the last few days, but anyways, I didnt mean 60 FPS, I meant to say 35 FPS. I dont know why I was thinking 60 FPS. Because beyond 35 or so the eye cant see a difference, but I do want as many as I can get for that padding for raids. But I am looking ofr 35 to 40 FPS in raids.

I have my i7 920 now OC to 4.33 and in the next few hours my 2 570's will be delivered. and next month I will be steping them up to 580's. But I know that the game doesnt use SLI, so when playing I will disable SLI. But where do I set the AA and AF at? in game or throw the Nvida program?

Smirk

you set AA and AF in the nvidia control panel, 3d settings

AA - mode need to be set as override any application setting for eq2.

then you can pick any aa - setting as you like, though i don't recommend the xQ setting as it is quite heavy on the gfx even in eq2

AF can be set to 16 with no major loss in fps

Ok got my 2 570 installed and messing with the manage the 3d settings. I am under program settings, and on Everquest 2. I have:

AF x16

Antialasing- Gamma correction Off

Antialasing- mode Override

Antialasing- setting 4x

Antialasing- Transparency Off

CUDA-GPU All

Maximum pre- rerendering frames 3

Muti-display/mixed Muitiple display performance

Power management mode Max

Texture flitering On

Texture filtering- negative LOD bias Clamp

Texture filtering- Quality Quality

Texture Filtering- Trilinear Optimixation Auto

Triple buffering Off (should I turn this one?)

texture filtering_ AF optimiziation Off

Vertical sync Use the 3d Application

SO what should I change to increase the use of the cards.

Smirk

aa - gamma correction: on

aa - transparency: supersampling for better img quality

texture filtering - quality: high quality

tripple buffering should be on if you play with vsync

Ok made those changes.

And what about this settings

SLI rendering Mode: Nvidia Recommended

Texture Filtering- Negative LOD Bias: Clamp

Textured Filtering- Anisotropic Filter Optmiz: Off

What about Threaded Optimization: Auto

aa - transparency: supersampling (but which one, I have 2x, 4x,8x. SO which do I want to set it to?)

Thank you for all the help. still waiting on getting into game to see what I get FPS.

Also is there some changes I need to make in game to make to better too. Other then put the Performance in Exreme quality or what ever? And what would you suggest I put that on with a i7 920 4.3ghz 6 gig ram, and a gtx 570?

OK I turned the SLI thing to single card, since EQ2 doesnt use SLI, wish it did, and wish they would fix it where you can dump alot of you graphics onto a GPU like most games. A

And Thank you for all your help.

Shader 3.0 makes everything glass look messed up and rainbowed. So I dont use it. might just be my machine.

Also another question I have is that under display option ingame, at the bottom there is an Advanced option for software forced AA, I have to look at it when I am in a bit. But should it be checked?

Smirk

keep the software forced aa checked

good luck tweaking the game
