A thought just struck me about the Collector's Edition mount. Will it be usable by only higher level adventurers, or also tradeskillers? (assuming it has a level requirement, that is)

It's not appearance only, but we do need to do the flight quests first to use it, as now they're saying:

This mount, called Stormfeather's Brood Guardian, is available exclusively with purchase of the Destiny of Velious Digital Collector's Edition pre-order. This is a full mount (contrary to some prior confusion that this was only a mount appearance). Players still need to complete the in-game quest to earn the ability to fly, but will then have this gryphon as another option for flying over Norrath.

So I'm curious how it compares to the tradeskill and adventure mounts in terms of speed and benefits. (And I'm glad it was decided to make it a full mount as well )

Also, is there a visual difference between the adventurer Snow Gryphon and the tradeskiller Boreal Gryphon? In the Players images, they both appear to be the same silvery-white.

If I recall correctly, the Frost one is all white, and the Snow one is bluish-white.

the boreal gryphon is the black one. the diffrence between the snow and frost gryphon is that snow is actualy a blue, frost is white.

None for people who buy REAL as opposed to Digital?

The adventuring, tradeskill and raid ones featured in that article can be earned in game.

Had too many hard-drive problems lately to consider the online stuff, mostly Just noting that they are favoring Digitial Downloaders to those who help advertise the game in the real world buy reserving real copies.

I can probably get the in game quest versions myself, just trying to figure out their advertising methods.

Retail for a 6 year old MMO is pointless unless your name is WOW.

Yep, retail is minor for old MMOs. No incentive for them to do a retail CE that a) people that can't buy it retail will complain endlessly about and b) that retailers don't really want to stock anyway.

Plus they make more money from a digital CE. No physical special items to make, just 1's and 0's.

Well that and they don't advertise. Not in stores where it counts for new blood.

In order to even get CARRIED by Best Buy, etc. last year, SOE had to pull out all the stops and make the Retail Collector's Edition and Retail Standard Edition have a 7 day head start and all kinds of extras. Even with these huge inconveniences for digital customers, Best Buy screwed over SOE (and all of us) by not fulfilling any of the things they promised. SOE totally bent over backwards for retailers last year and none of us got anything in return except a backache.

Question: Do you really make decisions about what game/product to buy based on whether it's got an endcap at Best Buy?

When I went in to pick it up I asked the clerk if there had been alot of people in today to pick this up?

He told me I was the only one who ordered it and it was the only copy in the store.

Weird if you ask me.

It requires a high level player, another words when you no longer reallly need to fly to get to the Quest areas...lol... Wow made that mistake also, and then lowered it down to like 60,and later everyone could fly.

Major Mistake

This is probably a stupid question, but what the hey.

We've got gryphons all over the place, in Antonica, Thundering Steppes, etc. They look very good, very... gryphon-like. (Gryphons are a cross between lions and eagles.) So why do the new ones not look similar to the old? They look like they're part bird, part dragon, and part only-God-knows-what.

Why aren't they recoloured / repatterned / modified versions of the existing ones?

Oh, I'll eventually get mine, but now that I've seen one it's no longer high on my to-do list.

Just like the so-called bear mount, they really don't look like what they're supposed to be. It's especially galling because they have good-looking bears and good-looking gryphons in the game, but we don't get those as riding mounts.

TBH an Armored Stormfeather Griffon CE mount would've rocked more awesomely than the current one they have. Sounds like a future station cash mount =P
