Is there a specific reason for this? Is it because the item has to be attuned? I have /feedback'ed it a few times. Just curious if anyone knows or if there has been an official response to it.

Any gear in appearance slot has to meet class requirements as well as level, I assume because they are reusing the same code that equipped slots use. Personally I'd love to see them drop any requirements from the appearance slot, but that opens the whole discussion about whether there should be some restrictions on who can wear class or level-specific outfits (although the various appearance-only sets have mostly made class a moot point these days). Originally, you could equip any level of gear but only received the benefits scaled to your level. You could see level 1 toons running wearing level 50 gear until they changed the rules -- not sure that they want to open that up again, even if its only appearance.

If they remove the requirement for level on equiping in the appearence slots then we'll basically be able to don armor from T9 while level 1. I personally think that's a bad idea. I love looking cool at lower levels but there needs to be some prestige that comes with a higher level character.

If you've put no effort into your level 1, they shouldn't look like a hardened warrior.

Perhaps they could set it so say you have 160 aa's at level 10 then youc an equip up to level 80 gear in appearence or something. So if you have put in effort into yoru toon, you can look cooler. But yea, I'm rambling now.
