I want to try and 2 box on the same machine, but I can't make it work

Machine = Dual Core Pentium. 2Gb RAM. Geforce 8600GT 512Mb

Should be more than sufficient?

I log one account in, then minimise it

Load up the launcher again, log in with 2nd account and click play, then it just sits there and wont load up the second instance.

Any ideas?

If you are using the streaming client you will need to have 2 copies of the game. I have one in a folder called eq2 and the other in a folder called eq2 two. I have also found with Win 7 you have to run the game as an administrator.

Hope that helps

Aeriel

I think it has to do with only 2gb of ram

Try running everquest2.exe directly and skipping the patchers.

Other than that, it is ideal to have 2gb of ram per EQ2 session you want to run. You can do it on 1gb per sessoin, but its more laggy and your going to have to experiment with getting it into 'atari' mode to not swap to disk.

This will sound weird or maybe not. But unless you've got 4 cores, turn off multicore support.

A friend of mine couldn't multibox on her 3 core laptop with that option turned on. Once she turned it off, it ran fine.

Wasn't there a line that needed to be put in the eq2.ini file to let you run more than one copy of the game on a system? I will see if I can find it. I run 2 or more instances on this machine fine.

Try adding this into you eq2.ini file.

# Allow the possibility to have chat channels in more than one tab/window#chat_allowduplicatechannels 1

Just thought id throw my 2 pence in.

I had the same problem. Then what i did was to create a folder called eq2a and copied all the stuff into that and created another shortcut on my desktop. So effectivley i had to shortcuts on my desktop. It works fine, also had to do it for my third account as well.

Hi guys, some really excellent ideas and suggestions there - Thank you all

I will give them a try, I don't expect it to run very quickly with only 2Gb of RAM but on minimum spec I'd have thought it was sufficient

Should run ok like i say i three box on mine

And trust me i had exaclty the same issue, my 2nd and 3rd accounts just sat there with the start button and didnt move, but my first account played. I could only play one account at a time. Just copy and paste it to a different location but make sure you take another shortcut should work fine.

Good luck.

If you have the old launcher or even the station launcher thing (though I haven't used that in several months now) you should be able to 2box directly from that.

Once about 3 months ago I had an issue where it wouldn't let me open the second account and just starting account #2 using the everquest.exe directly let me in with no more problems. I had no need to put in a second installation.

I've 3 boxed on my dual core couple of years old laptop as recently as yesterday with just the on installation of the game.

I can box off of 1 installation so I know that's not the issue. When you use all your RAM to run the apps on your computer it will lag the apps where they don't run

If you're going to 2 box on one PC what should the video mode be set to? Would it be high performance and some resolution lower than max?
