People just mentioned this on the X boards, looks like you can launch from everquest2.exe from how it sounds:

Sidhe wrote:

Had the same error on my launchpad, but was able to bypass and load from the .exe just fine.

So it looks like an error with the launchpad itself, not the game or server.

I'm glad you were able to work around the issue and apologize about the bugs that you have experienced. I am on hand to listen to your requests and if you know of a specific bug that you feel should be looked in to, please /bug it and you may also PM the issue directly to me as well.

I'm having the same problem with the launchpad. I can work around and use the .exe file, but is there a way to fix the problem with the launchpad?

Let's make sure you are using the latest version of the LaunchPad as I am unable to reproduce this issue.

Immediately after logging in to the LaunchPad, prior to clicking PLAY, please click on the Options button on the top left. Scroll down to the bottom of the options screen and ensure you are using Application Version: 423 Shell: 3.0.0.223 Plug-In: 147 or later. This is for LaunchPad only.

If it is not, please install the latest LaunchPad using the following link.

[EQII] LaunchPad

This problem is using my laptop which is running on the test server.

I am not having any problems logging into my main account via my desktop.

I did check and I do have the exact app version for the launcher you have listed in your post. I have also rebooted both computer and router just to be on the safe side.

For the record this is on Win7 x64. And also I have been getting the popup box during launcher startup with error message: "The program can't start because assetdb.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem" for a couple weeks but hitting ok hasn't prevented playing previously so I don't know if that is related or not.

Does the assetdb.dll file exist in your base game folder? If not, try running a full scan to see if it places that file there.

TSR-JoshuaM wrote:

Does the assetdb.dll file exist in your base game folder? Running a scan does not place it into the base folder. If I copy it myself to the base folder it tries to download 13 GB of data. I wouldn't really mind having to re-download all the data, but don't really want 2 sets of 13 GB of data if unneccesary.

Should I perhaps just un-install and re-install the whole game? Or is there something else I can try?

That is very odd. Have you, just out of curiosity, copied your test server files in to the base folder at any point?

The only thing I have ever done is change from US servers to Test server via the luancher. Other than that have not messed with anything that wasn't changed in game.

One thing that I am concerned about now is that after having copied your test server assetdb.dll, this prompted the test files to be downloaded to your main game folder. This may be an issue when trying to diagnose the original issue if the asset_cache were overwritten with test server files. I cannot confirm if that is the case, however.

I'm doing my own testing in the office at the moment, in the meanwhile please review this article as it may contain information that could assist you as well.

[EQ2] Test Server FAQ

The issue has been re-produced, identified, repaired and resolved!

You should no longer receive this error when connecting to the test server using LaunchPad 3.

If you still get the error, reboot and try again and then let me know if it continues!

Anyway, following this last post of yours I still didn't have any luck with starting via the launcher. I'd still launch it, let it update and then attempt (and fail) to start via the Play button. It would error out, I'd quit the launcher and then launch the eq2 exe file directly. About 8 or 9 days after your last post it just started working fine again, with no changes done by me. So all is well again, for now.

Thanks for your help Joshua.

It seems that your LaunchPad did not update when they pushed out the fix. I am not sure why it wouldn't have.
