I am having some texture and animation issues.

No water ripples when swimming

Thorncoat produces a few HUGE spikes insted of tons of tiny ones

Regenerationg spores are lime green blobs with out texture, depth shading as if the texture file isnt taking.

When standing in one place and turning feet dont move, I just slide around as do other players

Other animations are very "basic" compared to what they should be.

I have done a fresh install, full scan, graphics are all set rather high and am getting upwards of 100 FPS, sync refresh rate does makes no difference. I have over clocked the vid card and under clocked the vid card that makes no difference either. Direct X 9.C 10 and 11 are all installed and seem to work fine on other games. I have tried with and with out shader 3.0. I have my latest drivers installed and checked knowledge base for recomended drivers and there are none for windows 7 at all let alone 64bit.

System:

Windows 7 Pro 64bit, ASUS P6X58D Prem, OCed to 4.2 GHz(stable), 6GB DDR3, 1600MHz corsiair dominator ram, MSi N460GTX twin frozr II.

I can provide pics, movies, system info what ever you need to make this worth the 15 bucks a month I'm paying.

UPDATE:

After talking to a few different players in game on different servers with different systems both new and old (xp, windows 7, vista) and with different graphics cards both new and old I have found its not just me. Every one is seeing the effects the same. Some thing is wrong visually, some thing got broke some where down the line. I am willing to test things and post screens or do what ever I can to help come up with a fix.

I remember seeing posts about SOW not showing the wolf and things of that sort. What ever you guys did that broke that seems to have busted some other stuff as well.

Hope we get this sorted

While you may have encountered others who have similar issues we cannot say that the causes are the same without gathering much more information. I've not personally been able to reproduce a few of these issues however thorncoat does cause a few very large spikes for me as well.

For the time being, I would like to ask that you remove the overclock of your processor as stable is very relative term and there are other mitigating factors that certain overclocks can cause other than simply crashing your computer/application.

I've included a Knowledge Base article that briefly explains why this may cause issues.

Answer Title: [EQII] Overclocking CPU's in EQII.Answer Link: https://help.station.sony.com/cgi-b...p?p_faqid=11765

Declocked the system and am running CPU, RAM, and vidcard at stock settings. Please see the screen shots below for spores and thorns. I ran DXDIAG and every thing came up fine, I would be more then willing to post those results if nessarry, actually I'm willing to run any diagnostic you wish to help fix the problem. Spores and throns aret the only problems, I hang when switching zones, get graphic artifact from time to time reguardless of settings both in game on onboard my system. Stock, clocked or any where inbetween yeilds the same results and only in this game. I have cable modem and speedtest comes up great even with 2 other fire fox pages and EQII running so I doubt its a connection issue.

I truly appreciate you dealing with these issues Joshua

http://www.speedtest.net/result/1116202331.png

Yep that's how my thorncoat looks too... But I do get a different texture on my Regenerating spores. I'll run further tests in some controlled environments to see if I can get it to look like that too.

Thanks Josh, I did a full scan again for kicks thinking I was missing a texture file, but the end result was the same. One thing I have not yet done and am tempted to do is reinstall my 6 year old N250gts card and see what that does. Though at the end of the day this gtx should run it just fine.

If there is any thing I can do to help just let me know

Not the best solution but if time allows could you attempt to remove your asset_cache folder and redownload the game again? I just want to absolutely rule out file corruption.

The only thing ported over was the UI Setting XML, those were copy and pasted. This install is less then a week old.

I'll test it before reapplying my UI settings though so its a totally virgin install. I really dont want to set every thing up in the UI again if I can help it. haha

**UPDATE**

Completly deleted the game and reinstalled via http://www.everquest2.com (get the game) tab. I let the EQ update fully before entering. With out adjusting any thing I tried both spores and thorns and got the same effects as discussed.

So settings were fully default as down loaded. No over clock on either video card or CPU. Looking at the visual effects currently in game and digging deep into my memory it seems to me that (sony) revamped the appearences of spells. Spells are far less cinimatic then I remember, is there a reason they dumbed them down? I know in the process of doing this the wolf effect of sprit of the wolf was lost. I have read a couple posts on this, one of the replies was "I dont know how that slipped by us".

So after unclocking, reinstalling, defraging, double and tripple checking firewalls, antivirus, updating drivers we are still in the same boat. All we have left is to scarfice a goat and howl at the moon. I might be wrong but I'm thinking sony left some thing out, as they did with SOW.

You said you dont have a problem with spores... I wonder what would happen if you did a full wipe and a fresh install... maybe its working for you because you still have old texture files or something in your system? Just a thougt.

Thank you again for your time Josh, sorry the reinstall didnt work. I would rather have missed some thing and have a game working as intended in the end then play some thing that isnt working correctly.

I am going play around in game and see what I can figure out, maybe its a conflict with an armor/clothing texture or another buff thats up or some thing... Lets hope for a cure.

All that being said.... I'm not the only one its happening to, though I may be the only one complaining about it.

Thanks Josh, thats all I ask. I still have a bitter taste in my mouth from my SWG days when it comes to sony. I watched a perfectly good game get fixed to death and 9 times out of 10 the CSRs would blame our systems for the problem. Everquest 2 has always been a visualy stunning game for me and set up very very well, customer service has always been top notch. When I came back after a few month break and saw so many effects had changed I was a little dissapointed. To have found 2 effects on my own toon and then hear about even more I was even more bummed out.

In the military we had a saying.... "If it aint broke, fix it till it is" I hope sony dosnt let that moto leach its way into EQ2 like it did SWG.

I do beta testing and customer support for a flightsim payware addon company and know the frustration of tracking down problems. I understand you were just assigned to this forum and frankly this is the first time I have needed to post any thing in the many years I have been playing EQ. I think you have your hands full here Josh but your doing a awesome job, thanks for staying on top of things and helping me as best you could. If there is anything you ever need dont hesitate to PM me.

Totlich (Mike)
