I've been playing my monk for nearly a year, she's finally over level 80! I usually solo, sometimes I'll group and raid. But the problem is, I would like to learn how to play a monk to be a decent tank. I found a guide on TenTonHammer, but it's way outdated!

Does anyone know of any up-to-date guides for monks with the current abilities/spell names? And an avoidance tank guide would be good too. I've looked thru these forums, maybe I didn't look thoroughly, but I couldn't find anything. I'm just limping along with different articles, and kinda piecing my info together.

Any high level, MT or OT experienced monks that want to share their expertise with the rest of us? Any info would be very appreciated!

Thanks!

~Kiki

For a thorough explanation of avoidance mechanics, read the Avoidance FAQ. Unfortunately its not particularly concise, but it covers most of what you need to know about the various avoidance mechanics.

We're happy to help, but give us a little more guidance about what you need to know. Is it how to improve your survivability? How to hold aggro? What spec to go for? Do you want to tank heroic instances, or raids? Narrow your question down and we'll answer it!

TY Vinka for replying and that link. As for specific questions...

Yes to all of those you said. I would like to know how to improve my survivability, I'd like to know what specs to go for. I know I don't want to feel like I don't know what I'm doing in instances. My healer friend tells me what to do, and I feel like the stupid little sister that no one wants hanging around with them. I guess maybe if I just play more, I'll learn more by doing it.

I know about pulling, proximity pulls, ranged pulls, taunting. I would like to go on a raid to watch the main tank work. I spose I need better gear, and more practice.

I don't know a thing about the AA points, and what I should be putting them into. So I can be a good all around off tank, i have kept them pretting balanced. But, since my survivability depends on avoidance (i think) should I be putting more points into agility?

I really appreciate your reply Vinka, I'm just a bonehead and newb when it comes to some of this stuff. And I'm a 'read the directions' kind of girl, so I was hoping for a book! like Monk Tanking 101. It's funny, they have a D & D for dummies... hmm, idea! Maybe they have tanking essentials in there, that I can use in EQ2, I'll go check it out...

Well, I've rambled on long enough. Thanks again Vinka!
