View Full Version : Any plans to fix the performance issues on the merged servers?

I am writing this as I hang on another zone, for the umpteenth time this week.

These are some of the issues prevalent since the merge of Unrest:Najena and from the posts on this forum, I see that it's not just our server.

Insanely long zone times, especially into instances, such as your GH. Many times it just hangs forever, and you have to relog.

Broker lag almost as bad as it was a year ago when we had those lag issues following SF's release.

Server lag so bad that if you run into the center of New Halas, it can be up to 20 seconds before the Frostfell NPC's and Wardrobe are drawn. (as an example)

My ping times are averaging around 350 now, when prior to the merge, I usually sat around 160-175 ping.

We were assured that because the hardware from two servers was being reformatted to run the one merged server, that performance issues would not be a problem and we might even see an improvement. That is not what we are seeing.

And I don;t even want to mention what these mergers has done to EQ2players.com! Just look at my sig to see how truly screwed up that website is now. I apparently have a whole new guild (imagine that). Just put a bullet in that website's head. Why even have it up if the nothing on there can be trusted? Really... Why?

PlaneCrazy wrote:

Just look at my sig to see how truly screwed up that website is now.

I don't know why anyone even bothers to use those sigs. They can't even get a label renamed so it's not SigThis and SigThat. Just make your own and be done with it.

Regarding lag, on Guk I have also noticed increased zonetimes and the annoying commission lag on the broker. I have not, however, watched my ping. I will look at it tonight, though. Pre-merge I was also in the 150-250 range (Florida to San Diego or wherever their west coast data center is located).

Someone had said that just because a merge is done doesn't mean all of the hardware is migrated. Maybe that part is still ongoing.

Don't be suprised to see this thread swept under the rug. I had a similar complaint pushed over into the Tech Support forums. Like it's MY problem.

So tired of this company ignoring their pathetic server performance.

Doh, hope they fix it for you soon.

Being on a nonmerged server (The Bazaar) I don't have to deal with these problems, but I'm sure they're probably annoying to have to deal with.

Since the merge I've also noticed periodic spikes of server side lag where combat freezes for a second or two and then picks up from where it stopped at.

Permafrost broker lag is rather annoying at the moment. I haven't really noticed slow zone times yet but my machine zones slow already.

I was getting some pretty long periods of 1000+ms latency last night on Oasis, which would only rarely drop down into normal 150ms ranges. Though I can't say if that was 100% server related or maybe blizzard related. Couldn't really play anyway.

Zoning and broker lag are database lag and received NO BENEFIT from mergered servers.

The server lag SHOULD be "less" because of the ombined servers. This is combat and spell lag.

The only way to improve database lag I think is for better hardware OR for SOE to implement some form of control on the broker. Like unlisting listed items on the broker after 2 weeks on an inactive account.

Last I heard your items became unlisted after 1 week of account inactivity. I was told that a long while ago, not sure if that's the case now.

Gungo wrote:

The server lag SHOULD be "less" because of the ombined servers. This is combat and spell lag.

Not really. The more people on the same server cluster the more that cluster has to work to send and recieve all the data. If there's too many people that data becomes clogged and slows down and your data essentially gets stuck in a line or queue which could take several hundred ms to get through, which raises your latency in general making everything laggy. Your "database lag" is the same thing, just on a different server with an extra step involved. Too many people making too many requests for data from the same database, which is further compounded when the server they are requesting from is already overloaded and laggy.

We have game leadership that believes the merger is done when the two populations are moved to the same server farm. We're wished good luck, and they congragulate themselves on only taking 20 hours of the proposed 24.

After complaining about lag on the new servers, we get an "oh by the way, the hardware sometimes takes 2 days to catch up". They announced the merged was done knowing full well the hardware had not at that time been moved.

Since the last mergers were done with only a day left to holiday shutdown, guess what? Probably several of us didn't get the hardware merger at all. I've been getting lag spikes all day long in nearly every instance I've been in. Mobs just "appearing" out of the blue, long spell cast hang times, etc.

SOE at it's best.

Strange ... I'm running as smooth as ever on Guk.

(not being sarcastic ... I really haven't had any performance issues.)

Yeah im thinking about canceling my account until they fix it, on Oasis im getting spell lag, broker lag, chat lag, lag spikes, long loading times, etc.

They should have waited for new hardware, now the game is basically unplayable for me since all I do is raid, and thats when the server doesn't wanna work.. >.<

Befallen cavern the mobs don't spawn at all. Mixed good and bad all over the place. Haven't done broker, so no clue how that's working.

It's almost like once the raiders hit (around 9p.m. eastern) the servers took a dump. Prior to that population on Guk wasn't much higher than our normal peak loads.

I'm sure we'll be offered an opportunity to transfer to a more stable set of servers soon for only 500 SC/Hour...coming soon to the marketplace!

Najena/Unrest is a mess. There were such huge lag spikes of frozen inactivity that crafting in Frostfell became an impossibility even with only four to six people showing up in a /who in the zone. There were also load screens hanging into eternity that required a relog, and chat and casting lag as well.

*sigh*

I went back to Nagafen and the Freeport Extended server for Frostfell because they perform WAY better server-wise.

Hey, I realize that more peeps are probably on during Frostfell than at any other time during the year (not only is the best holiday in-game of any game out there but many people are on vacation around Christmas, too), but Naggy and Freeport can manage to hang on fine. What's up with PvE live these days not cutting it?

On Unrest I see no large issues other than a few times I sit starting at a Waiting for Zone Server message til I click the exit (Drums UI) since I don't want to wait any longer.

Lag on everfrost was pretty awful, near AB lag times. Spells/CAs hanging for 1-3 seconds, broker lag for 15s or more, since the merger. (in any zone with some population)

I've had more client crashes since merging with Guk. Performance has been about the same, but did notice missing mobs in cavern of afflicted.

Long broker lag when buying items on Permafrost today.

Not experiencing any unusal lag any where else that is note worthy except......

Today having issues staying and getting logged in.
