Let me begin with I really enjoy playing Everquest 2. Excellent community, great player versus environment content, etc so I am a nearly satisfied customer. Just as is the case for every other player I of course have a myriad of complaints with regards to game mechanics, class balance, etc. but nothing I can't live except...

There is one problem I have with Everquest 2 and Sony. I have a nice (not extravagant, but very decent) computer and you guessed it, I play Ever Point... or was that Power Quest.. I can never seem to remember.

In all seriousness though, in some zones the lag isn't that bad. In cities for example I run maybe 20 frames per second. Not happy about this but I can deal with it. Once I get into an area like The Hole, The Sundered Frontier, etc., my frame rate can drop into the teens with an occasional foray to the single digits (always at the least convenient time). Like a good player I of course drop my settings (have that hot-keyed like a ninja now) and charge on. Unfortunately this means I am basically playing Faceball 2000 (great game, mind you).

I was running next to a Heroic a few days ago, I think he hit me with a fireball or maybe it was poison. Long story short when my group asked how I died, I, head hung in shame had to honestly admit "I do not know..."

So, that's the crux of my woe. Yeah there are other problems I have but those can be saved for a later date as they deal mostly with ingame mechanics, philosophical approaches to MMOs, etc. My frustration with the engine itself is my issue.

I would like to extend a sincere thanks to the TSRs who have worked this issue with me. They have both spent a great deal of time with me and the AT&T guy I paid to fix something in "the cloud" per Sony. While this didn't solve anything I could tell the TSR did his best. I'm sure he's got a checklist he operates by per the herirarchy of Sony but he seemed to express concern and sympathy for my problem. However, as the problem still persists I am not really a satisfied customer

So, all that is now out, here are the particulars of my issue.

Setup: Just running around as a newbie Brigand, killing random things in Darklight Wood near newbie gardens. My performance monitor displayed the following after a twenty-minute interval:

As you can see, I have a processor core sitting around just chilling (both before & after the AMD processor patch) and the GPU... well he could render the game again and not break a sweat. So what gives, right?

So I thought "Hey, maybe I have a thermal issue?" so I monitored the temperatures and came up with the following during the same time interval:

Uncomfortably hot for me to hold but for a silicon die... this is cool and effecient so no worries there

Now I'm at my wits end. How can I fix this issue? Any thoughts (especially from Sony) would be greatly appreciated.

The following have been accomplished:

DirectX 9.0c: Installed

C++ Redistrubutable: Installed

Clean operating system reinstallation: Done

Reinstall EQ2 in numerous ways after a clean installation of only Windows XP: Done (Disks, Old client & new client)

Total computer reinstallations at this point: Three

More particulars of my system:

Technical Files: (included on external site due to character limits of forums)

My DXDiag.txt

My eq2_recent.ini

At this point my data would lead me to believe that the following is true: Everquest 2 only utilizes the one core in a system and does not properly utilize a modern GPU. The Multi-Core radio button is a placebo button.
