I am having an interesting issue here. As of about three or four days ago, I started getting REALLY ridiculous lag. My FPS would drop from 30-60 straight down into single digits, regardless of my graphics settings or location, even standing completely still. I couldn't for the life of me figure out what the issue is, until I opened windows task manager and set the Everquest2.exe processfor affinity to processor 0 only. When I do that, my machine performs flawlessly, there is absolutely no lag, but unfortunately the game overrides that setting and sets it back to both 0 and 1.

Following the recommendation of someone, I downloaded a program called Core Affinity Resident, and set the processor affinity to 0 only in there, and it STAYS that way, and my performance is fine. I was very excited about this until I noticed that I was getting severe rendering issues. Huge chunks of missing terrain, NPCs not rendering, etc. It's a disaster, but as far as my FPS issues go, it's very solid.

My major questions are these:

1) Why is this even happening in the first place, particularly as of only three days ago? I didn't change any of my hardware of software configurations, I didn't download any new software, etc. It just randomly started happening as of about three days ago, and I'm the only one who seems to be having the issue, though this particular issue of mine seemed to be a pretty common one when I first bought this PC (I bought it on the release day of vista, can't remember the exact date).

2) Why are there severe graphical anomalies when I set the processor affinity to 0? The game must be trying to reset some part of its rendering processes to Processor 1, and since I'm overriding it, it's not allowing it to do that. Although, things WILL eventually render, they just take their good time in doing so.

Some other info:

I HAVE installed the AMD Dual Core Optimizer after I started having this issue, it was previously not installed because I didn't think it was necessary as my peformance was flawless up until a few days ago. My PC is completely up to date as far as security updates and service packs go. I don't have any anti-virus software or anything of the sort running in the background that could be causing this, it's a consistent issue regardless of what other processes I run (with the exception of Core Affinity Resident). This issue is also present ONLY in EQ2, not the system in general, nor other games. What is going on here?
