The you turn around and suggest a 240, which is a slightly upgrade 9xxx series Nvidia chipset - it's ati competitor is the 4000 series card.</p><p>The 580 is a great card, but the base system needs the horsepower to drive it, a 800+ watt PSU, a fast cpu, and a stable system.</p><p>to the op - if you want to spend the money on the card and beefing up the system go with a 500 series vidoe card, if you want to conserve resources go with a 400 series card. In either case you may have to increase the wattage on the PSU, for the 400 series card you need a MINIMUM of a 550 Watt PSU, depending on what ever else you are running a 600-750 Watt would be a better choice. Do NOT skimp on the psu, more machines are labels unstable or complaints of "the application does not support the nvidia video card" are reported and the simple fault is a underpowered PSU or a cheap PSU. Buy a a quality psu of suffucient wattage and thingd will be a lot more stable.</p><p>I run both - a custom box with a pair of 480's and another with multiple 580's both machines run well when fine tuned, when I tri-box I prefer the 580 system because it is mated to a I7-980X @ 3.30 processor, the 480 system is no slouch though, it is mated to a I7-650 @ 3.20. </p><p>Unfortunately eq2 is still process bound when it comes to graphics, but they have made vast improvements in that in the last year, there are specific options in the program that you can set to help balance the load.
