So I was checking out various retailers for dates for our next expansion, and neither Amazon, Gamestop, Steam, Direct2Drive, and no one has a date for this expansion. I even did a Google Shopping search, nothing. This expansion is supposedly 50 days away.

I'm not one to be a negative nancy on these boards, but I really can't see this game making its announced date (Well, at least making it in a stable and working state) with no beta, no retail presence, no marketing, apparently no anything other than a strong belief in its future.

(yes, i indeed noticed the faint sarcasm coming from the words that the retail date is also the Beta start date).

But i didn't even saw anyone mention a real beta start date... even the HUGE THREAD (bolded, linked and coloured didn't help also) didn't tell me what i want to know (and the Threadstarter, of course).

If i failed to pick out the Beta date from the HUGE THREAD, please enlighten me; i sometimes fail to find the right Information (happens sometimes, even search engines fail me), so...

Maybe the Information is indeed that, in the HUGE THREAD is no information whatsoever, so, fine with me.

Regards, theriatis.

(*throws a faint portion of sarcasm in the post, with obviously even fainter portioned humor and some truth as a side dish*

Well in the UK, it is possible to bet on almost anything. I wonder what odds the bookies would give for a Feb 8th 2011 delivery with this current information

A "trainwreck" would imply that the train had been moving at the time it came off the rails, the DoV train doesn't even sound like they have loaded the coal onboard yet (or powered up the turbine engines if you have one of those new-fangled inter-planetary trains)

No matter when it's released, it won't be good enough for most of the people that regularly post "opinions" on these forums. There will be massive threads about how ___ isn't balanced right, ___ encounter is too much like some other encounter, about how the devs didn't listen to them on ___ even though it was posted here months ahead of time, etc. And there will be countless comparisons to EQ1's Velious expansion release, and how badly this dev team failed in capturing that magic.

I'd really rather them delay it until summer so they stand a better chance of getting some of these things right and thus getting better word-of-mouth and a better return $ on their investment.

As it stands, I don't predict a trainwreck, I predict a planetary implosion.

Doesn't matter though, I'll still be playing. No rifts, ands, or buts.

I was thinking the same thing this morning, would be nice to have some information before the end of the year at least about what we can expect to see in the new expansion. I do not believe I have ever seen an expansion have so little information released at such a late date before in all the years I have been playing any game, not just EQ 2.

Do we even have an official announcement on level ranges? I assume it will be between 80 and 90 but not even sure about that.

We don't even have a dedicated web site with info like we've had in the past.

http://www.desertofflame.com > points to EQ2 post launch

http://www.echoesoffaydwer.com > points to EQ2 post launch

http://www.riseofkunark.com > points to EQ2 post launch

http://www.sentinelsfate.com > points to EQ2 post launch

Hell, even http://www.bloodlinechronicles.com and http://www.splitpawsaga.com both point to the EQ2 site post launch.

All of these sites had info well before launch of their expansions/adventure packs and it was all neatly arranged in one place. There was lore, stories, features, screenshots, videos, FAQs.

But, now 6 weeks before release, all we have for DoV are some articles on EQ2Players and a handful of fan sites.

http://www.destinyofvelious.com simply doesn't work. It doesn't even redirect to EQ2.

So, the web presence for DoV isn't even up to par on previous releases unless DoV is hiding somewhere that Google isn't finding it.

I am guessing they are releasing the game for free, since we are about 6 weeks away, and not a single mention of allowing preorders, or any order for that matter.

Now, it's just like, "Oh boy. More generic snow. It's one big New Halas."

I really want some more information - i had it on my wishlist for christmas , and now i'm supposed to tell as soon as possible how it can be bought or pre-orderd. Believe me , its really hard to explain to a person that doesn't play on the internet, but has many experience with onlineshopping, ebay- and the hype about the blizz addon is so massive that even most non-players i know know about it and ask if i bought it or want it etc.

It's complicated to explain to them : " No, i don't want Cataclysm, i don't buy it, i don't play that anymore. But the best game ever has also an expansion announced that is supposed to be released on february 8, and i'd love to get that so i can play on with my toons there. "- " Ok, i will go check amazon and preorder it for you-" " "that won't work, there isn't anything on amazon yet." "ok, what about ebay? -where can i order a box?" "There's no information out yet , no-one even knows if there will be boxes for us at all, last expansion was nether in stores here and the only way to buy it was digitally, without a dvd or box"

Can you imagine how that sounds to an outsider?

I personaly don't care that much if its launched buggy (there will allways be bugs when something big is released, i expect it to be like this), i won't have any lvl 90 char rdy as i don't want to buy SF now if the addon is near and its most certainly included there. When SF was new, i decided against it because my highest character was about 50-60, and the only way to get it was the digital download.

But i really really love having a box. And i want a box that i can get here in Europe, on a normal way like amazon , or in a real store like gamestop, Media Markt- whatever- and i'd prefer a way where the person wanting to gift it to me has something-be it the confirmation that its preorderd that she can pack in for christmas, so it doesn't feel so strange.

I think the angst this and other similarly themed threads are generating is that a year ago there had already been a couple of weeks beta under the belt before the holidays, the dev team was at least one person bigger (Timetraveling) and SF was still generally reviewed by players as unfinished and lacking when released. Now a year later we're starting beta 3 weeks later with less content Devs.

Not sure the title should be "42 days to go: So we're sure Destiny of Velious will be out 2-8-11?" but rather "42 days to go: What Velious will we get on 2-8-11?"

Honestly, I can understand the expectations game here. It will be difficult if not impossible to meet the expectations of Velious because they're based on nostalgia.

I don't have nostalgia for Velious either. I just want a good expansion with interesting content, AAs that make me feel like I am genuinenly expanding the abilities of my character, and as little "obvious content grind" aspects as possible.

I think the art is a given. The art in TSO was pretty cut-and-paste, but SF was stunning. Velious will look amazing.

As for depth, who knows. I don't think they'll put in the faction grind or require players to make any kind of substantiative choice in Velious. Players want to be able to do all the content, whether they're good, evil, or exile, and regardless of which faction they start with. People are just used to earning +50k faction with everyone now. And instant travel.

Just this morning we had a small discussion about it on Lucan, and the fact that the Pandas have you go back and do things in their service that should (And would have in EQ1 or even EQ2 circa 2008&nbsp upset the Kerans you just got up to ally with, but you take no faction hit to the Kerra at all.

I am nostalgic for Velious. For it's depth and epic feel. For it's dynamic and meaningful content. Faction was a major piece of that. Without that I am much less optimistic that it will be a good expansion with interesting content than I would be with it

I'm no psychic, and my two cents might not be worth much to most of the people around here, but I have a feeling this is going to tank. EQ2 is already heading down a slippery slope with marketplace and EQ2x - and frankly, I'm done wasting my money on it. RIFT nor WOW live up to EQ or EQ2 in my opinion, but I'd rather not play anything and wait for Rift than to keep throwing my money at SOE when they, obviously, no longer care.

They keep EQ2 afloat, but that's it. Skating by on the skin of their teeth just isn't good enough for me anymore - I need more, and Sony giving out the bare minimum while trying to make us think it's something great isn't 'more'.

In short, sure, DoV will be out when they said it would - will it be finished? Probably not. Like someone else said, it's not a question of when you'll get it, it's a question of how much of it you'll get and if it'll all be broken or not. Will it bring any new players to the game? Definately not. Will it live up to what we're hoping to get from it, no matter how varied our hopes are? I bet you a hundred bucks it doesn't. I've not been excited about an expansion since RoK, like many people, and Velious is no different. What sort of cheek does SOE have to give away the race as a preorder incentive and a "Keep your sub for the next three months, just hang in there until the new content comes!" and then turn around and offer it on the marketplace? It's disgusting, and I apologize for the flame, but hey. I've spent the better part of 7 1/2 years with EQ/EQ2, and I just can't take it anymore.

/rant off. Sorry. ): Just sad this game has died for me.
