Hello.

My gf and I have been looking for a duo to play. She really enjoys scouts and I have come to like the Inquisitor. I have read that Inquis can solo and take a pretty good hit. Is it feasible for an Inquis to tank in a duo with an assassin? We're not looking to pwn all the content without any difficulty. We don't mind a challenge, but I'm not exactly sure how viable Inquis are as a tank.

Thanks.

No, your proposed situation isn't going to work. Even with the Hate Transfer from the Assassin, I'm expecting the Assassin to mostly hold aggro between the two of you (assuming equal gear and AA). Now if the Assassin was willing to tank while you off tanked adds as needed, then that would be one thing. But I just can't see my own 90th Inq successfully tanking for an Assassin.

Now having said that, I did level up my Brigand main through often duoing with a Defiler friend. For the most part, my Brig was the tank. Yet with my deaggro tricks, I could temporarily drop aggro when I needed to do a back stab attack (if I was out of stuns and roots).

My honest suggestion is for your girlfriend to play either a Swash or Brig. Both Rogue classes can do a bit of tanking on their own, especially since we gained all of the +Weapon Skill adornment options since the SF expansion. Also they both have enough aggro drops that she should be able to help ping pong aggro between the two of you when needed. A Swashbuckler is honestly the better choice, though the many stuns and mitigation debuffs of a Brigand are going to be useful in your proposed duo.

Appreciate the feedback. We are both new to the game and we're hoping to put together a pretty good duo to do most of the content with. She doesn't want to get stuck as a tank in pickup groups, and I've read that swashbuckler's tend to get stuck in that tank role quite a bit. I was really hoping that the Inquis could play a healing tank so that she could just focus on DPS.

Rogues "can" tank. Sure, we even have a worthless piece of trash Stamina line which is our "tanking" tree. But having said that, a Swash is a dps class. Though they can tank a bit as needed, no end game PUG will ever have a Swash tanking it. Or at the very least, no one will ever force her into that role.

Inquisitors work really well with scouts. In raids, they're normally paired with the scout group. Your Fanaticism buff (50's buff) is very powerful on scouts and so is your targeted +DPS Tenacity buff. A duo between an Inq and Swash will be very strong. But for a true PUG in the low to mid levels, neither one of you will be a tank for a true group. Now each of you might flow back and forth for tanking in your duo, but that's a completely different subject.

If a Swash sounds fun to her, then your proposed duo is very viable. Just don't you let her get scared away from the class because she's afraid to be forced into tanking. I can tank low to mid PUGs on my Brigand. Especially when I'm mentoring. But it's not the purpose or primary role 95% of the time. (However I do off tank adds as needed on my Brig in heroic end game instances. Yet that's another subject.)

The only time you would see a swash "get stuck" to tank is if you can't find a tank and the swash suggests by himself that he might try to tank. This almost never happens as esp. at higher levels almost every third player has some kind of tank twink. All groups I had where a scout did tank where not PUGs, but guild groups where we did know each other. A PUG normally would more likely disband if no tank can be found then to try it with a scout as tank. So you don't really need to worry about that. Swash or Brig and Inq would be a great team.

Appreciate the feedback from both of you.

We have decided to stick with the Swash/Inq duo and we're having a great time going through the Halas starting area.

Not sure How well your inquisitor will do at lower levels in the tanking Dept. However I know at level 90 myself (90 inq) can tank a fair amount of 6 man dungeon content. I tend to duo Library, cons, Befallen: HOF, DF and a few other instances. Usally I am with a Necro however When i do run with a scout from my guild the only class I have trouble holding aggro off of is a ranger. I tank with a 2h because the hate gain is far more than 1h/shield. Just spam Penance on yourself and watch for spikes. Between your damage and healing you can draw some pretty desent hate. The real key to having a strong inquisitor to do things like this is AA. The inquisitor really starts becoming a power house in the upper 100s.

My inquisitor is only 65 and I'm finding her surprisingly powerful. I duo quite a bit with either a Bruiser or a Necro depending on who an rl friend wishes to play. While the Bruiser does a decent job of holding agro, it's nice to know I can take a few hits if need be. With the Necro, I nearly always end up pulling agro off the pet. By the way, I'm a big fan of unorthodox duos. The challenge makes them fun.
