EQ2 makes loud buzzing noise and loses sound in game at random times; have to reboot to fix.

<p>I have an odd problem i am not seeing a recent solution to. I have a fresh install of windows 7 64bit ultimate on an i7 quad core machine. All drivers are new and up to date. system runs perfectly and has run eq2 perfectly (for a few days) until yesterday. I have a new Soundblaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty PCI Express sound card. I also have Creative Alchemy installed and eq2 added.</p><p>Now, when I am in the game (windowed mode) at random times, sometimes as soon as a few mins, the game will flash on the screen make a beep noise then lose sound and make an awful buzzing noise so loud i jump up to lower the speakers before they blow. Then if I come out of the game the sound is still screwed up in windows and the only way to clear it is by rebooting.</p><p>I was using EAX 4.0 on 5.1 speakers. I did try EAX 3.0 but the same issue occured. What is the solution to this issue? Why would 4.0 be an option if it doesn't work properly?</p><p>Thank you for any help!</p><p>** Also note the problem seems not to happen as often using EAX 2.0 but it still happens. I really like the sound quality of EAX 4.0 and it was working fine before the other day!</p><p>Please any advice would be great! My sound keeps crashing out and it's making the game unplayable.</p>

<p>Try deleting the eq2_recent.ini file located in your EverQuest II directory.  Could you also let me know which version of the X-Fi sound card you are using?</p>

<p>Ok, sure. I did delete the ini file AND installed directx_Jun2010_redist and that seemed to have done the trick. My Xfi card is: <span style="font-family: Calibri; font-size: small;">PCI Express Sound Blaster X-Fi Titanium Fatal1ty Professional Series. So far since i did those two things i have not had a crash.</span></p>

I will get a blink (sometimes the whole screen will get brown vertical lines) for a moment, and then the awful buzzing noise but the game is still running and does not lock up or crash out, just sound is buzzing very loudly. I tried installing the latest XFX video card drivers for my card yesterday but still no luck. The odd thing is it only seems to happen in the city of Neriak. What is causing it?</p><p>** Correction it has not just done it in Neriak now, also in Zek and in the Icy Keep. I really am at a loss here. Only way to fix it is exit game and reboot because I have no sound or it is a constant buzzing. Then everything is fine for a random amount of time.</p>

<p>Can I have you delete the same file again, eq2_recent.ini.  Then take note of any changes to the settings you have made between the file deletion and when the problem appears again.</p>
