What happens currently with your character's name when you want to move to a server that is going to be merged with your current server (move on your own before merge)?

It might be strange to move to another server with whom you are going to be merged anyway in the future. But I have my reasons.

Situation:

I want to move to a server where my character's name already exists. But according to eq2players the other account seems to be abandoned at all, at least the toon in concern has not been touched for a year or so.

When the servers are merged, the older and most played of two equal names remains the same, the other gets changed by adding an "x". I am convinced that I'll keep my name during the server merge, because my character has a lot more online time and is in active use.

Do I have a chance to keep my name NOW (before server merge) while the abandoned name of the destination server gets changed?

If one has and one hasn't, then the one who has been active keeps the name.

If both have been active in the last 60 days, it then looks to see which character has more /played time. Whoever has more playtime then keeps the name.

Basically, if it's truly an inactive character like you said, you should be fine.

First, I'd correct you on one point, being the oldest account means nothing, it's whatever character has the most played time, assuming both characters have been played within 60 days as mentioned above.

You can transfer ahead of the server mergers however there is nothing that says that SOE has to give you your name when you transfer. I'm pretty sure you would just have petition and request whether you can get access to that name, but I think there was a post on the forums where people were asking for the names of characters who hadn't been played for an extended period of time to be released. From what I can recall there were mixed responses regarding whether they were able to get the names released. Some people were able to get the names, and others were not able to get the names released.

Your best choice would be to wait for the server merges to go through, and secure the name that way since it sounds like you would get the name by following the server merge rules.

Well, if you wait for the merge you'll be fine. If the other character hasn't been played in the 60 days prior to the merge and yours has, you win automatically. Even if both characters have logged in in that 60-day window, yours probably has more played time on it so you'll win.

If you want to transfer before the merge, you'd normally lose your name. Standard transfers don't use the server-merge rules for names. But if the other account's truly abandoned, you can probably petition and get the name freed up when you transfer. You'd have to call and talk to CS to see how it'd be handled. I'd put in a petition explaining what you want (clearly, make sure they know you're asking for the name to be freed up as part of a transfer, you're not just objecting to someone on another server having "your" name) and see what CS has to say. Or be patient for a couple of weeks and let the server transfer take care of it.

If you *transfer* and someone has your name, your name gets an X appended to it and you get one free name change. No exceptions. Server Merge rules do not apply to transfers.

Sincerely -

KianaX
