Try running a full file scan, if that doesn't work out lets try deleting the following files and folders:

cache foldereq2_recent.inieq2_default.iniEverQuest2.exee q2.ini

As well as the character specific files, these will appear as such:Servername_CharacterName_EQ2_uisettings.iniSt ationname_characters.ini

I was getting this error right after I started getting "ERROR within CheckUpdateNeeded" whenever I tried to go through Station Launcher. Has there been a fix yet? I've even tried reinstalling after frustration and I keep getting both error messages.

Someone please help!

While I look in to this personally, you may try using our latest LaunchPad. You can select your existing folder upon installation to avoid re-downloading a majority of the game however there will still be updates and file conversions occuring as it is migrated to the new patching system.

[EQII] LaunchPad

Thank you for a speedy response! Unfortunately the new laucher was what I was using when I got the error message. I tried Station Launcher and got the usual "ERROR within checkupdateneeded" and when I tried to just open EQ2 it couldn't connect to a server (I take it this has something to do with the merge). I'm basically paying for a game that I can not play and that is very frustrating to me.

I appreciate your time and hope you can resolve this quickly. If you need anymore information from me please don't hesitate to ask.

MJ

I'm sorry I am a little confused. What is the error message you receive when using the LaunchPad i linked?

I had the same problem and figured out when it happens. It looks like it happens when you shut down the game in an improper way, that is to say, when you shut it manually, not logging out from the game itself. Fact is, it does not depend on the pc you're using. After I got that message, I deleted my game and reinstalled it and then it worked; then I installed the game at my girlfriend's pc and shut it down manually from there. guess what? When I got back home I got the message from my laptop! So, I'd say the problem does not depend on the users file. I hope i've been helpful and I also hope you can help me to fix this problem: I don't wanna reinstall the game each times it shuts down improperly.

Another thing: I tried deleting all the files you suggested in the previous post but it didn't work. I then made a backup copy of the game assets folder and keyboard folder and copied them once reinstalled the game: it gave me the same fatal error. Instead, deleting the whole game and reinstalling it, seems a successful technique. But, obviously, it is pretty annoying, ins't it?

Ok, this time I inizialized the game after closing it properly, but still it gave me that fatal error. So, i really don't know what's the issue anymore

what Joshua said did work! I reinstalled it but from a different location on my harddrive. Smooth sailing from there, thank you!

No dude, it works just at the beginning. I install it in another folder and it works; then I shut down the game, re-open it and...fatal error! I'm getting sick of it. I guess this game just doesn't want me to play it... :S

Re-check the shortcut you use to access the game and make sure it is pointing to your new installation.

I launched the game directly from its folder, but the issue persists

What file are you launching? If you are using LaunchPad 3 and are running the EXE directly it will result in this or a similar error. You need to use the LaunchPad, preferably the icon on your desktop. Just double check that path is correct. You may have multiple installation folders as we have changed it a few times recently.

C:Program Files (x86)Sony

C:Program FilesSony

C:ProgramDataSony Online Entertainment

C:UsersPublicSony Online Entertainment

These are the common folders it may be in.

Each time I reinstalled the game I deleted the previous folders and icons. I have just one game installed and the icon on the desktop refers to the current game folder. Couldn't it be a registry issue or something? I really don't know what to do

What is the name of the file you are launching? LaunchPad.exe?

Yes

I believe the problem is in the registry or something, because at the game installation I'm not asked anymore which language to choose and my user ID is already inserted even if I had uninstalled the game previously. I have now uninstalled from the previous folder and reinstalled it in my external hard-drive; same thing: first time it works, then I close the game and the game closes me outside.

Do you use the icon or launch the file directly?

Right click the icon and hit properties and list me the path of the file please.

Either I launch the LaunchPad directly or i use the shortcut, the result is the same. now I have the game installed on my external Hard drive, so the current path of the shortcut is "K:EverQuest II ExtendedLaunchPad.exe", but I think the path doesn't matter, 'cause the problem can't be that one.

Now it seems to work. Turns out it was probably due to my COMODO firewall, which was partially blocking the Everquest application file. I've now moved it to the trusted files list, so let's hope it works from now on

Glad it was something simple to fix, even though I had trouble even seeing that as a possibility. My apologies!

Oh, don't worry about it. I've myself found it out by chance . Anyway, thanks for the help!

Having the exact same error message, not sure what to do. Tried deleting the files recommended and running a full scan, neither seems to have worked.
