Yeah this is complete BS, whatever it's going to be. Regardless of what it's going to be, I'm calling complete BS on it.

I'll roll one, just like I did when the fae came out... but some part of me is doubting that the freeborn will be as lovable or as interesting to play as the fae were. The fae were a completely unique race at the time of their introduction, seeing as how they were both the only winged race and also the only race with racial featherfall and glide, and with the fae came Kelethin (which is my favorite city in the entire game simply because not only is it easy to navigate, but it's also a pretty awesome sight to look at!) What will the freeborn bring to Everquest? Chances are high that they'll be made into an evil race and all crammed into Neriak, aka: the most confusing, labyrinthine pile of **** the game has ever known. On the other hand, there is a fairly large possibility that they'll have their own city in Vellious; even more interesting is the idea that the freeborn are actually a good-aligned race that will start in Qeynos, where they will be protected from Mistmoore and given sanctuary!

Though speculating on where they'll start might be fun, doing the same for their racial traits and what the freeborn stand to bring to gameplay is a little disappointing. If they have any unique racial traits, it is more than likely that those traits will eventually be given to some of the more popular races eventually just as they did with the fae and featherfall/glide... maybe the dark elves/ iksar/ erudites were secretly vampiric all along! Or, even worse still, maybe SOE will release 500 different cloaks that give you a vampiric curse when you wear it, so you can roll a fat little halfling and still recieve all the benefits of being an unpopular race!

Even though I'm a little bitter because of the ways SOE has handled the introduction of new races to the game in the past, I'm actually finding myself more and more looking forward to the release of Vellious the more I think/talk about the freeborn... of course, the inevitable "Skin of a Killer" apperance item or red ford pickup mount is what will cause me to explode into a glorious bloodbath of vampiric cleansing.

If you get lost in Neriak then you have some real issues with your sense of direction. The city is basically 1 street you follow from beginning to end. Not to mention Kelethin is one jumbled pile of crap that only became halfway viable when they put the teleportation pads in there

KidMangaX wrote:

I'll roll one, just like I did when the fae came out... but some part of me is doubting that the freeborn will be as lovable or as interesting to play as the fae were.
