I am unfortunately cursed with having to use satellite for my internet and in groups it is mostly okay - i can work around a 1-1.5 sec delay since i mostly play dps classes. But in raids it is just ugly. My connection is not full duplex so bascially what happens is that it receives for one second, sends for one second and then flips back and forth like that. What ends up happening is that there is just so much battle spam info coming in during a raid that it is not able to download fast enough to keep up with the fight in real time, so the info gets queued and for a 5 minute fight i generally have about 1-1.5 minutes of info still downloading to me AFTER the fight is actually over. Since the amount of information actually leaving my computer is tiny, the server is able to see me and keep me connected since it is getting an update from me every other second so anything i say, do or type is happening in real time, but i just can't actually "see" it since it is queued up in the download to me.

What all of this boils down to is this question. Is there a way or a setting to tell the server NOT to send the players battle spam/damage information to me? I don't need to know what sort of damage anyone else is doing, I just need to know what the mob is doing. During a raid if i am able to stand way back from the mob then I am usually fairly well off cause I am out of the range of the battle spam. Any suggestion is welcome if there is a way to tell the server or a setting to tell the server to not send me damage spam info.

Not sure if its what you mean but i know in the eq options you can turn off the part that says show third party damage -- also in the options u can turn off overhead chat bubbles so you dont see a whole white screen from macros and stuff

Thanks guys.

Unfortunately it isn't a display issue but rather an issue of how my satellite provider works. First off, during prime hours the bandwidth is so heavily over subscribed used that the 1.5mb connection that i pay for only gets me about 0.5mb (hurray for satellite providers). On top of that, the connection is NOT full duplex and the cycle rate is about 1 sec, so it sends 1 sec, receives next sec, send, receive, ect. Which means that the effective download speed is about 0.25 mb. Now, during combat the game server seems to sends you ALL the combat details and it is just a matter of what you want to display and how. So even though you may not show the combat spam and bubbles and the such, the server is still sending it to you. Unfortunately the amount of information being sent is so much for a 4 group raid that 0.25 mb just isn't fast enough to download it in real time and what happens is that the ISP queues up the information and sends it as fast as it can. Since my computer is still sending information every other second, the game server doesn't disconnect me and I am able to spam spell attacks, but the information I receive gets more and more backlogged on long fights to the point that a 5 minute fight actually takes me around 10 minutes cause 5 min after the fight is over, my computer is just getting the last of the fight info and is then able to catch back up so I am once more seeing real time info and not stuff from several minutes ago.

An interesting note to all this is that no matter how backed up and delayed the info is, the voice chat is not delayed and comes in real time (which is the only way I can tell what is happening most of the time on raid fights). So there is some way that they are able to set voice chat to highest priority for download. Now if I could only find a way to tell the servers that combat damage info from players is of lowest priority then I could at least see the fight in real time even if i couldn't tell who was doing what damage.
