View Full Version : (Spoiler Warning) A Desperate Situation and Criggle Cloudpuff...

I did a quick search and couldn't find any forum topics covering this so here goes...

After you're done dashing around practically every part of the Barren Sky doing this quest line that starts with the quest "A Desperate Situation" from Constance Cloudpuff you wind up finding out that her son (and the brother of the missing Clarissa Cloudpuff) has been killed and some sort of "Monster" or entity has taken his place and is seeking the power of the sky. Luckily you steal it right out from underneath him but he says "...the power you hold there is just a fraction of what I will attain in time. I shall return some day and show you the true face of power."

You then confront him about not really being Criggle and he replies "You mean the curious Fae? He made a tasty treat, such savory meat and crunchy bones. Clarissa never even noticed when I took his place." to which you reply "You monster, you will pay for what you have done." and he then replies "I have not been called that in a long time, and someday you will pay for calling me that." And then of course each says you look forward to confronting eachother again.

So my question is: "Who (or what) is masquerading as Criggle?"

The only clues seems to be that he/it was large enough to EAT a fae (not horribly revealing, but puts him as larger than humanoid (unless maybe a larger humanoid such as an ogre or troll), and that he can apparently shapeshift/polymorph/whatever to assume another person's shape. Judging by the length of the questline and the foreshadowing I figured this might be relevant to future events at some point in time, and the fact that this wasn't in the original release of KoS but added on after the fact in the updates, so I started wondering "Who is this really?"

Hmm... Sounds like a possible storyline that went nowhere. The NPC certainly isn't important enough to devout most of the questline talking about, so I'm guessing it's just a canceled storyline.

Fae aren't that big it would require someone the size of at least a human to eat (troll's have a recipe book for eating barbarians)

EQ2 seems to be littered with storylines that have been abandoned before the end

If I had to bet I'll say Kerafyrm.

I always though it was a Shadowman, that had consumed him and took his body...if it was a polymoprhed dragon, it'd have to be a dragon we didn't know about in KoS, since we know what all the dragons are up to in that expansion.

Kerafyrm wouldn't need to play hide and seek in the kingdom of sky. If he appeared the warring factions would cease warring and fall in line behind his leadership instantly. Both the dragons and Droag are loyal to him.

Shadowmen consume the essence/soul/spirit of a being and then take over the shell. They wouldn't talk about the crunching of bones. Also they don't shape shift.

There are no known dopplegangers outside of Unrest. Where they came from in Unrest? Totally unknown. The Dijinn and Efritti are able to alter their appearance so it could be either of them, but as far as it is known neither race would be intersted in consuming a sentient creature.

It could be a dragon, but the question is why would a dragon skulk around as another lesser race in Kingdom of Sky?

Mimics are not Dopplegangers.

you know maybe it's a Vultak or other Aviak using an illusion. One od them would prolly eat the fae, and be after the power of sky

It's part of the KoS revamp from about a year ago.

Yeah, about that.. The quest designers have always done a good job for most quests. Kingdom of Sky was given a complete Solo questline series for players to enjoy, a quest line that would eventually lead them to Kylong Plains as part of the whole "Golden Path" solo questline thing.

Somehow, I doubt they'd leave this particular case open for a followup. These solo questlines are usually wrapped up within themselves so if there was going to be any follow up on whatever this monster is, I would think they would have included it. So far, they haven't really gone back to revamp any already existing solo questlines except for Darklight Woods and Greater Faydark, which are newbie areas.

The Order of Rime isn't a solo questline. It leads into Group and Epic content.

Maybe you (the player) are the horrible monster and you're just talking to a manifested hallucination. Isn't this the questline that gives you the fae/arasai illusion at the end? The circle completes.. you are the monster.
