First off let me say I know a bit about computers, software, and periphrials. I built both my computer and my wife's computer, and they're exactly identical. The important specs are Q6600, 9800GTX (not the + version), and 4gb RAM.

The computer's were made identical on purpose, so that it would be easier for me to diagnose problems, software incompatabilities, etc. That said, although slightly dated (they are however highly overclocked, both Q6600s are operating at 3.6, however they both have sophisticated aftermarket cooling systems I put in to keep temps down), they can both play basically every game out there flawlessly.

The problem comes with my wife's computer, and only in Everquest 2. For some reason EQ2 loves to kick her from fullscreen mode to windowed mode, over and over and over. Putting the game on full screen mode will last a few seconds, before it kicks her back to windowed mode. What in the world could be causing this on just her computer? We have the same hardware, the same drivers, the same software, the same temps, the same clocks, everything. Yet mine has never, EVER been kicked from Fullscreen to Windowed. I've tried everything I could think of, different drivers, lower settings (which is somewhat pointless, since her machine runs fluidly with the highest settings), less programs open in the background, but regardless it just keeps switching to Windowed mode. Any ideas at all?

Don't know why it happens. But, it happens to me. For a while, every morning around 5am my time it happened. Then it quit. Now happens just randomly and rarely. It happened this week in a raid around 10:00 at night, I thought I was crashing and then it finally settled into windowed mode. My computer is not fancy at all. Over 5 years old bought from dell with whatever they put in it. I added some RAM, thats it.

I know you have mentioned that you have limited the amount of applications loaded in the background during your initial troubleshooting but if you haven't tried disabling all unnecessary apps then you may want to try the suggestion in the knowledge base article below.

[EQII] How to start computer under a clean boot

If that doesn't work out for you please post your MSINFO data in this thread. I'd like to take a look at the running tasks section of the generated file.

To grab your MSINFO file:

1. Press the Windows and R key.2. A box will pop up, type msinfo32 and press enter.3. Click on the file menu and click on "Export..."4. Save the file to your desktop.
