View Full Version : shader 3.0 long load when changing settings

When running in shader 3.0 and the game has been running for a little while, it takes a long time ( up to 30 seconds ) to change from windowed to full screen, or changing between different graphical settings. Without shader 3.0 running this takes about 2-3 seconds max. Is anyone else having that problem?

basic specs are:

Core i7-920

radeon 5870

12 gigs ddr3 1333

windows 7 64 bit

I find Shader 3.0 takes a long time to change from windowed to full screen and vice versa too.

I think its always done this, not sure why but its one of those things I've had to live with so far.

Has happened to me a lot. I play in windowed mode and sometimes changing settings/zonining/logging causes the client to become non-responsive. I sometimes have to shut down client and start again. Unbelievable annoying when you are in the middle of a raid and changing zones.

Fix for me was to revert back to shader 1.

Shader 3 is just not implemented well enough to be active on live servers. It still needs a lot more work and i think it should be taken out of the game for now. So many textures are missing and not optimised to run with S3 on. The whites are too [Removed for Content] white in some cases.

Lets just naively hope that something will be done about this to improve performance and/or get a complete overhaul to the dogged eq2 engine.

well, I'd go back to shader 1.0, but for some reason my game hangs for anywhere from 3-20 seconds randomly on raid with shader 1 going. Which isn't really an option because I'm the MA and AE caller 'n such. Still have not found a way to fix that. The computer actually reboots itself if I have Catalyst A.I. disabled in my ati catalyst control center. It never hangs at all with shader 3.0.

Shader 3 also runs higher FPS for me anyway, by about 10 or so. I can raid with it on high quality and usually stay around 70 fps, dip to about 35-40 in some parts of UD though.

The long load time isn't that big a deal, I usually like to play in full screen and need to swap back to windowed to look at a more detailed parse is all. So its just a little annoying tbh, guess I'll just have to live with it.

I7 860 OC to 3.36

GTX 460 1g gddr5

4g ddr3 1600

Win7 64 bit

And i cant go anywhere near Shader 3.0 -- i play in balanced and only way for me to achieve 55-60 fps is to have 3.0 turned off and all shades also turned off -- So if u can raid in High quality and get 70 fps i would say dont worry about it lol

Well, technically its high quality with flora turned off cause I hate it, and max spell results for other players set to 0. It's too distracting for me to see everyones spells, i'm not sure if that would make up for that extra FPS or not.
