Happy 6th Anniversary! I played at launch, tho I haven't been here the whole time, due to real life stuff. I started on Permafrost with a lot of people I knew from EQ.Quellious. Some of my fondest memories are of running through Stormhold with a full group of guildies. Also raiding Cauldron Hollow, and Bloodskull Valley: Maulic's Stronghold tho I wasn't very fond of the accumulated exp debt lol. I've never found another set of games like EQ/EQ2, that have been able to sate my MMO appetite. My day 1 character was Atheos, a paladin that can still be seen on EQ2players.com, I am also looking forward to EQ3. Maybe by that time I will be finished with my degree and I can help make it. =-)

Happy Birthday Everquest II.

A good friend of mine in EQ1 decided he wanted to try the new game and talked me into joining him in EQ2. We played there for just a couple of days and he hated it. We went back to EQ1. I kept coming back to EQ2 every few days for about a month. Got my first character in a place where I could not get the corpse back. Never dawned on me to ask for help. Delected first character and made new one. Good alignment. Was killing the gnolls just outside of North Qeynos gate. Needed an afk for a few minutes. The guards had been helping me kill the gnolls. So I just went and sat behind the guards thinking they would protect me. LOL - came back to find me dead again. Got corpse back. Needed money. So go fishing says I, after all in EQ1 I had made coin at an early level by fishing. Guess what no pole, says you can't do that without a fishing pole and did not have enough coin to buy one. They gave me one on the island and was I ticked off. I quit and forgot to cancel my sub and now I am about to get my 7 year vet reward.

I have watched the changes over the past 6 years. Some good some not so good. At first after coming back running through Nek forest was not going to happen for a low level toon. But it was fun to try. To get good and high enough to quest there was something I was quite proud of. Over the years I have made several good friends one of which became a real life friend. I hope to be here for a goodly number of years. After all this time I still find things to do and places to see. Each race/class I make shows me a new perspective on the game.

Keep up the good work SOE.

I am curious if they will be launching anything else. I really hate when they launch something and then post about it the day after it ended. Some anniversary pictures went that way.

Hmm... I have to say the craziest, strangest and best experiences I've had in EQ2 have to be...

*This one strange day, Antonia Bayle server, I was logging on right after a patch, and was leaving my house in Concordium Tower, South Qeynos, but my game crashed. Natually, I logged back on, and found I was in a different spot then when I got kicked out, I was inside instead of outside the tower. So, I ran outside across the bridge, and BAM, I saw another me on the otherside of the bridge... Totally freaking out, I went in for a closer look. Same name, same titles, same armor. It really was an exact replica of my character. I even logged on alts, and had my guildies check it out, and other people could see my doppleganger too! Everyday I went to check it out, and the other me was right there, in the same spot, until the next patch day, a week later.

*When my insane brother figured out how to create an alternate world in my house... Seriously, just visit Doctorhow's manor and check out my teleporters. You'll see what I mean.

*When I got stuck in a window (and later died in the staircase and couldn't move) in the New Halas house...

*When I received the "Big Red Button" in-game item from LoN and blew myself to bits, along with my guildmates as well... We got so much Xp debt... But it was so worth it...

It took me an extra month to make the move from EQ to EQ2, so no launch day memories. I do, however, remember the whole game crashing the weekend before Christmas! I mean the WHOLE game. Every. Single. Server. They all came down on Friday the 17th and, if I remember right, nothing was back until Sunday some time.

I can barely imagine the havoc that must have been going on at the SOE HQ. And I'm pretty sure new servers or other large-scale computer equipment don't benefit from those last-minute Christmas sales. They did credit the players the lost time, though, and even put a reference to the crash in-game. Anyone else still have a copy of The Book of Days Past?

Time flies!

I remember, in 2004, I had just relocated to a new region of the country, and was basically rebooting my life on several levels.

I'm sure it is at least partially due to those circumstances, which the release of EQ2 happened to coincide with, that the initial period after launch remains such a strong memory in my mind. I had been following EQ2 during the months prior. I forgot about it after I moved, and then one night not long after my birthday (which is on the 6th of November) as I was leaving work, I decided to swing by the store and pick up a copy, as a sort of pseudo-birthday present to myself.

At the time, I was living with my sister in her company-paid apartment, a temporary arrangement while I got myself situated and looked for a place of my own. The apartment was furnished, which, if you've ever lived in a "furnished" apartment, basically means that the guest room is not furnished. I was staying in the guest room, of course, so my computer, an old Dell that I had purchased in 2002 and upgraded once, was arrayed in Webster-style fashion: on the floor.

Being that I had just relocated, I obviously knew no one and literally had no friends nearby, I spent many a night, and more hours than I can recall, sitting on the floor, hunched over in front of the monitor (which was placed on a plastic bin that I had inverted to become a makeshift TV stand), exploring this brave new world. I played so long and was so unaccustomed to using the mouse and keyboard in that position that, after a few weeks, I developed actual muscle cramps in my hands and fingers!

Ironically, those are, to this day, some of the best memories I have, in all my time being a gamer. Sitting on the floor geeking out to EQ2. Combine that with the first-time MMO experience, which can easily take up its own thread, and it's no wonder that I've stuck with this game for the entirety of 6 years (with some hiccups here and there).

My first character was actually a barbarian berserker on what was then called the Lavastorm server (now Nektulos). I joined a guild sometime before hitting level 20. One of my first big social events was a raid in the Shattered Veil in Antonica. I became part of a group of 4 players who gamed together pretty much every night for at least 3 hours, every day. We worked our way through Antonica, Stormhold, Nektulos, the Crypt of Betrayal, Runnyeye, Zek, Enchanted Lands, Rivervale, Feerott, Cazic Thule. Unfortunately after that we ended up separating and going our own separate paths (at which point I created my present main on AB) but I always remember those first 4 months as something truly unique, one of those experiences that only came about as a result of a number of other circumstances, and will probably not ever happen quite the same, again.

My launch memories? Brand spanking new to mmo's..I was amazed!

The drakota attacking the boat. /sigh It hooked me.

Hailing a Guard and accidently "attacking" him. Insta-death. I was stunned.

Corpse runs...having "most recently killed by a small chest" listed in my player profile. So embarrasing.

Dying by the forge...which after all these years, still hates me.

The fabulous community, Devs, my Guildmates and friends (including the ones I haven't met yet!), without whom Norrath would not be the wonderful place to be that it is!

Congrats SoE and EQ2 for a wonderful game and thanks for so many years of fun and memories!

there will be lot of angry players when the first server merging begin, starting on 16th

and that on 17th???

geez, talk about very short event and missed during server downtimes, eight servers are gonna be flaming for missed lost times even the frostfell is just around the corner.

that why last year paintings were on for very short time, and now we see it again repeated for some players who might not had time or enough status or tokens to trade in.

planned events are poorly timed when we get server mergings.
