I had been out of game about 6 weeks, started playing again, and of course did the big set of game updates to get current. Then my voice chat stopped working. I can hear game sounds just fine, and the mic test on Options plays back fine.

I reboot computer and come back into game and see "You are logged into Voice Chat as a different character. Click here to change this." Clicking that pops up the blue window. I tell it yes, but nothing happens.

My Options look like this:

------------------System Information------------------Time of this report: 5/30/2010, 19:14:31 Operating System: Windows Vista™ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6002) Service Pack 2 (6002.vistasp2_gdr.100218-0019) Language: English (Regional Setting: English)System Manufacturer: MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO.,LTD System Model: MS-7529 BIOS: Default System BIOS Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Quad CPU Q8200 @ 2.33GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.3GHz Memory: 4094MB RAM Page File: 3467MB used, 4926MB available Windows Dir: C:Windows-------------Sound Devices------------- Description: Speakers (Realtek High Definition Audio) Default Sound Playback: Yes Default Voice Playback: Yes Hardware ID: HDAUDIOFUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0888&SUBSYS_14627529&REV_1000 Manufacturer ID: 1 Product ID: 100 Type: WDM Driver Name: RTKVHD64.sys Driver Version: 6.00.0001.5713 (English) Driver Attributes: Final Retail WHQL Logo'd: n/a Date and Size: 10/2/2008 03:53:12, 1504280 bytes Other Files: Driver Provider: Realtek Semiconductor Corp.
IDK if they ever fixed this for you but you are not alone. i was getting that regularlly, now i just get booted. i dont get a msg very often. sent in a ticket and got the brush off. completely useless, no help whatsoever. i've heard others have this problem and they wanted to blame my super duper fast FIOS internet connection so im stuck.

I am still working with Nancy at Vivox. They tell me that the voice server is looking for Port 5062, with a fallback to 5060 if it can't connect to the first one. I've sent additional info but have heard nothing further since Thanksgiving. I get intermittent voice. It will suddenly pop in, or quit working, with no obvious rhyme or reason.

If you look in the regular EQ2 log files, you see stuff like this:

(1290877611)[Sat Nov 27 11:06:51 2010] You have a new voice channel available: aCMD vcjoin_session <a href="mailto:

I was contacted via PM on the EQ2 forums by a Vivox CSR 10/27, and she gave me her email. I didn't notice it was there until 11/14.

On Nov. 14, I sent the Vivox CSR my game logs showing the voice chat problems, and also found the voice chat logs (they look like vvs-2010.12.14..log) and sent those.

The Vivox CSR sent me back a network capture tool and askedme to install and run that to capture more data, which I did. I emailed all that back on 11/15.

On 11/15, the Vivox CSR responded with this:

Looking at the pcap file, I think it's a coincidence that your second alt got into voice ok.We try port 5062 first for SIP, if we can't get that we try 5060. It looks like 5062 is blocked, because we retried over and over again. We were successful using 5060 after. Can you see if you have 5062 blocked by something? your router or firewall?Let me know if opening that up helps the situation.

Okay, a plan of action! I immediately checked and found that the firewall and router had open ports and my VC STILL DOSN'T WORK.

So I wrote her back with this data on 11/27. I never got a reply. On 12/06 I sent that info again asking for help. Still no reply.

I just heard back from the CSR at Vivox, and she apologized for not responding sooner. Now I've sent her a lot more info and their router expert is reviewing.

Some additional info she suggested (in hopes it helps someone else):

...we need 5062 open for UDP traffic, on the firewall settings it says TCP.Also make sure that SIP ALG (Application-level gateway) is not enabled on your router.

I swear, I will be writing a summary of all the helpful things I learned when this is over, because I want no one else to go through this level of pain.

OK, finally got it fixed. There is appaerently a known problem with ANY VOIP application, including EQ2 Voice Chat, and certain Linksys routers.

When encountering a VC problem, first check that UDP ports 5060 and 5062 are open on your firewall and router. If you are unsure about how this works, I heartily recommend the useful guides at PortForward.com.

If this doesn't fix it, and you have a Linksys router, then the fix is to install better firmware in the router using the firmware available at http://www.dd-wrt.com/. DD-WRT is free Linux-based firmware for several wireless routers, most notably the Linksys WRT54G (including the WRT54GL and WRT54GS) and Buffalo WHR-G54s,WHR-HP-G54.

Flashing new firmware on the router was scary, but not difficult. To avoid reducing the router to a useless brick, be sure to read the instructions CAREFULLY. Then perform every step EXACTLY. The DD-WRT people had excellent step-by-step documentation that was easy to follow.
