Hello,

This startup problem is not solved by the turn everything off in msconfig solution.

I believe the problem relates to XP and AMD dual core chips. It is a problem with two different video cards (nvdia).

Basically, everything loads and goes to a black screen (before character creation dialog box). If I try to control alt delete my way out I get a bunch of colored lines going across the screen.

I think the application is trying to jump processors...I used tom hardware's application to force the application and the startup program to go to either one of my processors and did not solve the problem.

I would appreciate a useful suggestion. A few games in the past have had this problem, but usually using control alt delete and then going back into the game has solved the issue.

Cheers.

The game should run fine on a Multi-Core processor. Can you post your DXDIAG so we can see what we are working with?

To create a DXDIAG file please follow these steps:

1. Press the Windows Key and R on the keyboard.2. Type dxdiag in the box and press enter.3. Click on "Save All Information."4. Click on "Save." (Save the file to your desktop so you can locate the file easily)5. Click on "Exit."

Copy and paste the contents of the file in this thread. I just need to see everything up to the Sound Devices section.

I noted that various tests had not been run. I ran them and everything was fine.

Other than the odd resolution, everything appears to be fine according to the information you provided. Try lowering your desktop resolution to maybe 1280x1024 to see if you can get into the game.

You may also want to try modifying EQ2's settings file to have the game run in windowed mode and at a lower resolution. The file you are looking for is eq2_recent.ini and is located in your EverQuest II's installation directory. Modify the following lines to read:

cl_screenwidth_windowed 1280cl_screenheight_windowed 1024

cl_fullscreen false

Hi,

I have a slightly odd monitor, which explains that. I've seen this in other older games as well...and I think it predates this new monitor.

I will try changing the game's resolution, though my gut reaction is that isn't the problem. Still, without trying what do I know. It will take me a few days to get to this, thank you for the suggestion.
