Preface: I play on Nagafen now

So here I am solo questing and shooting out the occasional "65 Guardian LFG" when I get a tell from some random person saying that I should level to 70 as the pvp is the best and he rambles on about how cool it is for a few tells.
This is a product of the MMO trend toward soloability. Everyone wants to be able to consume large portions of these games by themselves, and then people complain about the ramifications.

In a game world where people need people every day they log in - and personal reputation matters... then folks are forced to act with more decorum. This was true back in EQ - people who behaved badly were talked about in guild chat... and would receive a fairly universal ban from your guild.

Assuming they were idiots to other people too - their reputation would start to grow... and they would find themselves not being able to do anything in a game where you needed people to do most things.

I'm eagerly awaiting EQ Next - in hopes that it will bring back the notion that "other people matter" - so that I can once again play an MMO where I will for the most part be free of folks like you describe.

This is actually a growing problem in general due to the lack of accountability for ones actions. Keyboard warriors, forum trolls, griefers, and the like are never held accountable for their actions and anonymity only empowers it. Many organizations... security organizations specifically, have attempted to put mechanisms in place to curb this trend, but nothing seems successful. I'm honestly getting to the point where I really think there is no resolution.

I will say though that getting off of a pvp server will probably net you a better experience. Nothing personal against the PVP servers, but those environments tend to attract the best of the best... and by that I really mean the worst of the worst.

I did PUGs all the time on Luclin and the only real thing that got you blacklisted on my server was being a horrible player. And sometimes not even then.

This trend isn't a product of soloability of MMOs. This is a product of the internet and the anonymity that's offered by it. I've been seeing this sort of attitude for the past 16 years, long before MMOs started trending toward being more solo-friendly. There's a reason that the phrase in the OP's post is so prevalent. That's because it's been around and circulating for a very long time.

In all fairness, I have noticed myself that there seems to be a predominance of these types of idiots on EQ2 servers lately.

It wasn't this bad when I took a break from EQ2 back after DoF was released. And during the 2.5 years i was playing Vanguard, I never saw as many idiots as i do now in EQ2.

Personally, i feel it's the changes in the game that SOE has done that has brought more of these types of jerks here. They changed their whole "vision" to a more solo orientated player base... one who could get anything easily and without help. It may have kept the lights on over at Sony Online, but it sure did bring out the jack-#$@ in the player base.

This would be proof of success. They've been targetting the biggest MMO's players, and apparently they've gained some.

Working as intended.

I agree with anything thats been said here.

With the target of the game becomming easier and easier to hit that majority player base there will be an influx of this style of player, one that hides faceless behind the screen. With the game becoming more soloable, the more community is lost. There are a lot of great people that play EQ2, but there is also a large number that need a perma /ignore.
