Has this file (eq2ui_mainhud_welcome.xml) been set to not accept customization or am I just going insane?

Silat

Edit: On Test Copy, not on live.

Edit2: Please move the thread to test forums. Thanks.

Yes they disabled the ability to hide that. Enjoy your SmedlyBucks ad everytime you login!

It's not just the ability to hide. I cannot skin it to match profit either.

Silat

Well if you're going insane so am I. No change I've tried to make to it today is being read. Even deleting the file from both default and custom directories between patching and loading doesn't seem to stop it appearing, so I can only assume it's being cached or hard coded somehow.

I have as of yet been able to fix it either, I think a PM in to Rothgar about this would prolly be in order, cause for me it is crashing me every time I go into test.

Wow, they're unbelievable... They add in the ability to toggle it off through the eq2.ini file, then remove that ability months later without any word. People find a work around which now completely disables it (instead of allowing us to hit the marketplace window when we actually want to see it) and so now they're going to remove that as well.

I guess the only way we can avoid it now is just not to log in... that can be arranged!

This post needs more attention, needs more outrage, imo. Its ridiculous and a straight up insult to the playerbase.

This thread should be in the test feedback forum.

I like Smokey and all (AB server upgrade ftw), and I don't care about the welcome screen personally, but this change is not very smart. If people are going to all the trouble to disable this window, they aren't going to give you money for things they see advertised in it, heh...especially after you try to force it on them.

Well the OP should ask to have it moved then. I would love an answer on why this change is happening, and if its intentional.

Send a PM to Amnerys, probably your best bet for getting it moved. Or report your thread and ask for it.

Ridiculous.

Currently, mine is set to just not pop up on login. I saw solutions to disable it altogether, but didn't use them because I wanted to b able to get back to it to check for daily missions and such, and just in case anything useful was ever there. Guess if you guys are going to stop being nice about it, so will I.

How about a key command to toggle it so we can map it ourselves?

I really hope this is not the case - there are few things this game can do to [Removed for Content] me off enough and this would be one of them.

I have 7 accounts and don't want to see this each time I switch toons. I've been playing EQ1 since PoP and then moved on to EQ2, I've lost count fo how many years I've been playing.. but this ...

This screen was annoying as all heck when first introduced. And now has basically been turned into a "Hey, lets shove SC down your throats even more!" screen.

Removing the ability to disable it for those that don't want to put up with that kind of crap is a pretty low move. Par for the course with the current Develepment direction, but still low.

I just did a test on Test-Copy, I deleted all eq2ui_mainhud_welcome.xml files from both default UI folders and custom UI folders, deleted reference from eq2ui_mainhud.xml and the welcome screen is still displayed at login. I guess now it's hard coded, unable to skin and impossible to disable.

I have to say, I find it insulting.

Rothgar wrote:

Several of you are saying we completely ignored the feedback on Test server and that couldn't be further from the truth. If you read through this thread, you'll see several things that were modified directly based on your feedback. When it comes to the other complaints, like the XP bar, I gave an explanation that it was not within our control to make those changes.

http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=483438

You have the option to modify your UI or load any of the existing mods out there to custom tailor your experience if there are things about the default that you don't like.

It seems we are only allowed to modify the UI as long as SC is not affected...

This is something I don't get. If I want to check it out, I do it on my own and don't need to see it EVERYTIME I log on to an alt or logging into the game.

I hate to bring up EQ2x, because I could care less about it, but this change purly solve the greed of SoE to get us buying stuff on SC. Seriously, hard code it for EQ2x, but for the love of god, get it away on live servers, that stuff is annoying as hell.

You missed a spot Khurghan

Consider that there may be an exploit behind all this. SOE has a habit of not explaining anything about exploits until they've been stopped, and even then very rarely. SC would be a perfect target... just sayin'

They are apparently under the impression that forcing people that don't want to see this window everytime they log in, to the extent that they will go to great lengths to remove it, will generate more revenue then not forcing them. I am not sure I understand the logic, as forcing me to see this window everytime I log in will make me quit. And I have shopped from it before.

This is a major slap in the face to paying subscribers. To force customers paying $15 per month to nevertheless be subjected to a giant pop-up ad every time they log in is insulting, completely unconscionable and unheard of, to the best of my knowledge, in the online paid subscription services industry. This predominant effect of this decision will be to drive away subscribers to companies and games that show more respect for their subscribers. There should be a checkbox in UI options to disable the welcome screen. At the very least, the command that one used to be able to put in eq2.ini to hide the welcome screen should be reinstated.

And frankly hard-coding it to open, even in EQ2X, for me is just counter-productive. It's why programs have the option to not display the splash screen. It's nice the first couple of times, when you didn't know about those things, but after the 100th time of seeing it my reaction is "I KNOW already, and I don't have time to go shopping right now. Just get out of my way, I need to get logged in, get into the bank and get my cure pots so I can get to the raid on time.". It's not a game-breaker right up front, but it's one more thing that makes it easier for other games to be just as fun as EQ2 while being less annoying.

Unless they actually post that it is not allowed to be hidden it will still not show in ProfitUI after this update. GM9 gave a clue at eq2interface and I have disabled it again.

Silat

I just wish there was SOME sort of acknowledgement... whether the removal of the code to disable the popup (but still allowed us to look at it any time we wanted through the menus) was intentional, or whether now the disabling of modding the window is intentional... even if its "Sorry guys, this is the way it has to be" would answer alot of questions.
