I am new to EQ2 but not new to MMOs and even played some EQ back in 1999. I came over on the F2P wagon and leveled a Berserker to 10 to get an initial feel for the game. I have since absorbed all of eq2.wikia.com's beginner guide and other information I could find. I started to get the feeling that while a Berserker could specialize in DPS other players would usually expect me to tank which I didn't want to be forced into.

I tried to read what I could about each class and eventually decided on an Illusionist despite the fact that I'd need to spend real money to unlock the class. I made this decision mostly based on what I now realize is a post from 2007 (http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...=346645#3932873) and looking at all the QQ-ing in here it seems I may have made a mistake? I'm not so concerned about endgame, just want a interesting class to play that can solo well and get into groups now and then. Are these things no longer true?

I guess regardless of your answer I'm going to give it a whirl, especially because I just spent real money to unlock the class. Which leads me to my main question; can anyone give me an idea of or point me to some current Illusionist specific character development information? Curious what AA build I should go for as I level? Or should I just blaze my own noobtastic trail?

Hello my name is nightwriter and I'm in EQ Addict... oh wait that isn't what your post is about...

I love my illlusionist. He's only level 15 but can kick some serious tail against mobs I've been up against so far. I love being able to make one mob stand still while taking out his buddy(ies) lol.

With that said I have learned quite a bit from not just these official forums but here: http://www.eq2flames.com/illusionists/ as well. Just need to have a bit of a thick skin because they don't moderate language at eq2flames boards.

I started with going down the AGI line for faster casting but someone else told me that I should go down WIS line first for soloing instead so not sure about that. Will be interesting to see if we get any good more experienced answers from more veteran illusionists than myself.

Thanks for the info and the link. Any chance you are on the eq2x/freeport server too?

So after posting this I took my baby Illusionist to level 8 (much quicker the second time once you know the interface) and I gotta say that so far I am very very happy with my choice. I get ME as a pet? Myself? Seriously? How freaking awesome is that? And crowd control is fun as hell like you mention.

I know its really early for me and I know I don't know much about the game, but it seems this message board could use a little "youthful" exuberance about the Illusionist class!

I play on Mistmoore one of the pay to play servers. I do have a character on Ex but it's a templar. I don't play on there much as my primary characters are all in Mistmoore.

Never do the Wis line that is a waste.

Do the AGI line and INT line those are the 2 best. Then when you get those done go to the Illusionist tree and put the points to get Imgainary Arm (IA) and Time Comperesion (TC). Those you should be well on your way.

Thanks Zivgar. I did not put any points in to WIS at all yet and am glad I did not. I'll certainly be pursuing the route you suggested as well as that is what I have seen elsewhere, too.
