View Full Version : Sad state of the Illusionist

I understand there is a lot on the developers plate, but let's be honest, waiting until the expansion to help illusionists out is not going to work. All it will do is drive more people away to other games releasing expansions or new games around the same time.

Here are some suggestions from the chat I had with folks in the illusionist channel last night:

1. Change Personae Reflection. Make it a true illusion that can be cast on ANY group/raid member and makes a copy of them (similar to possess essence). If you cast it on a fighter/scout, the pet becomes a melee based pet. If you cast it on a druid, wizard or conjuror, the pet becomes ranged elemental dps. If you cast it on a necro, shaman or warlock, it becomes ranged noxious dps. If you cast it on a cleric it becomes ranged divine damage. And finally, if you cast it on an enchanter it becomes mental dps. In addition, make the pet immune to AoE's either innately or via illusionist aa's.

2. Give illusionists a blue AoE. To my knowledge, they are the only class that does not have the ability to obtain one either through spells/skills or AA's.

3. Change Illusory Allies to a limited dumbfire pet that soaks damage for the entire group. Add an AA that makes it raidwide. Take it one step further and make it soak hate for all the non-fighters in the group/raid.

4. Ditch 2 of the mez's. Leave illusionists with one quick casting, moderate duration AoE mez, and one long duration single mez. Take those two spells and turn them into AoE's. One moderate damage, quick reuse blue AoE, and one high damage, slightly longer reuse encounter based AoE.

5. I know you just tweaked time warp...how about making it more intuitive? Make it a 10 second buff that increases the casting/reuse spd of the target and the caster, and increases the potency, crit bonus and spell double attack of the target/caster.

More to come.....

(if you do, they need to /delete).

Coercers used to do 1.5 k dps and be out dpsed by ilys back in Rise of Kunark ~ Ilys used to be powerhouses of dps, while Coercers did pathetic dps ~

Coercers got essence love with the latest test update. My point is, even good illusionists are now being outparsed by healers in dps mode.

IF they can get this to work for illusionists (for whom the idea of an illusion of a group/raid member makes more sense) then it could possibly be worked for coercers at a later date.

I'm not advocating the nerfing of ANY class. Just some much needed tweaking to one class.

On a single target mob my Templar can stand against an illy in DPS and depending on the roll of the dice (my flurries hitting) i can beat them in DPS... That's just rough.

Do they now start tweaking individual classes to fit in with the new stat consolidation? If so, what did we gain by stat consolidation?

Tweaking individual classes also creates problems with scaling. This was also, interestingly enough, an immediate problem when it was implemented due to the fact that we only had T8 gear to test with and it started scaling in pretty much day 2 of the Xpac.

Well, it lasted on the the testing feedback forums for 2 days before it got booted. Here's to hoping the dev's are paying attention.

I could care less about a blue AE for Illusionist, but if we are the only class not to have one then perhaps its time that we do.

A change I wouldn't mind to see to Time Warp is to give 100% Flurry chance also. That would make it helpful to melee classes as well. That would make us more diverse and not just a mage buffer.

One of my signature moves when raiding is to cast Illusionary Terrorists on trash once the tank gets agro then snap it back with phase to someone else.

When you did that the first time how badly did the tank yell at you?

Every class that doesn't have a blue AoE thinks they're the only class without one.

Dirges, Templars, Troubadors, Wardens....no blue dmg AoEs and those are just the ones i've played.

I have to agree with the above poster. I'd like to see the Illy do a bit more damage, either thru the pet, or by direct spell casting. Right now the DPS Illy's put out is downright dismal.

The illusionists own dps is just fine, I can easily parse high and embarrass some 'real' dps classes with the total package I have, the pet itself just aint doing much to add to that DPS. Adding 6% to my own damage I do is too low, and thats despite having empowered minion etc gear on me.

The pet will do more damage in the expansion as they will have shared stats with the caster, meaning they will actually crit.

Whether it survives more than 5 seconds is another matter.
