Awesome we can now possess essences of Boss and named mobs - ie i would think ANY mob now, however the 20m range is still a killer since most mobs - even trash - have a larger agro radius than the 20m of the PE

Another thing that was mentioned at Fan Faire was to please make the PE pet persist through zoning and death ? pretty PLEASE ? that would simply be REALLY awesome

Considering the damage output from it is negligible, I'd rather it got AoE immunity (even if it were an AA option -- Hello, just replace the Amnesia AA with it) than persisting through death. This thing's probably going to get obliterated on every AE in a raid anyway... big deal, it won't even be worth the time it takes to cast it, save for the token value of having a copy of the named mob as a pet.

I'd love AE immunity for the PE. I wouldn't say he does negligable damage though, at least for entry level raid guilds like mine.

I mean it procs pom/stampede/vc don't forget. It's usually like 3k dps in my 22k parse.

Not to mention for the coercers who do not raid ?

Raiding Coercers still had options for getting them, except maybe in the Palace of Roehn Theer because trash is few and far between there.

Without AE immunity in a raid setting, the time spent casting/re-casting this pet after it keeps dying would lower my overall damage potential than simply continuing to ignore it as an option would do -- which is what already goes on for the most part.

At best this has some "look what I can do" value to it as implemented. If they want to make it useful, let's have some AE immunity (and while you're at it, you could probably back off the arcane resists and give illusionists' Personae Reflections AE immunity too). If you don't want to give it to us by default, by all means implement it as an AA choice somewhere for enchanters and allow us to opt into it (and out of something else). If it's a worthwhile choice, I might use it... if not, I wouldn't.

This also doesn't address being able to get a PE target in the Battlegrounds, but I realize that takes more forethought because of the potential PvP implications.

Cant say i disagree on the AE immunity really and it is a valid poitn to be sure...

But i still just wanna keep them through zoning - i know, small thing cuz i can just find another, but yeah

And the persist through death for spells they were working on but have issues with it working correctly.

This is a good change but has two big flaws...

1) Casting time of the summon is so long that it would never pay off to possess a named. (In fight)

2) PE takes so much damage that it does little else than draining group wards.

Granted they are nice on trash and nameds that dont aoe that much. But otherwise useless. Getting a aoe avoid would make them useful. Or adding to their hp/resist. But they currently DIE alot. if they would survive in fights that would be another story. Currenty necro/conjy pets suvive now mostly because of hp and they stay ranged. Illy pet is alive sometimes because of ranged. But you almost never get a casting PE so it needs to live thru aoes.

AOE avoid is pretty much a needed mechanic for possess essence.

Another useful change would be to know exactly what abilities and archetype I am possessing. Some random mobs are impossible to know what class type they will be. For example, I was running around and decided to possess a level 11 rat in Antonica. The rat turns out to be a guardian. Other than constantly tabbing back and forth to a wiki page, I cannot possibly know what abilities, damage output and survival my possess essence will have. Maybe add some type of "Scan Essence" ability or a buff icon that once possessed tells us what the essence pet is classifed as and what abilities it has.

the 20m range limitation definatly is a issue with possess essence.

It would be cool to see the summoners scout pet and both enchanters pets (PE/personal reflection) avoid aoe's unless targeted.

There are still aoe's that will hit them since not all AOE's are avoidable but this will help these pets stay up in raids when they should not die.

Random idea - how about an AA for a warden-style rebirth buff that you could put on your pet? After your pet gets whacked, there is a short delay and then it pops back up again. I suppose the same tree could also have the companion talent the that rebirth gets too, if it weren't built into this talent in the first place (the one that gives it more life and power and also gives AOE immunity when it repops for a duration depending on rank).
