Heyya!

The Greater Faydark population and quest changes coming with GU58 are on Test and Test Copy now!

GREATER FAYDARK* The Crushbone orcs are threatening the city of Kelethin! Adventurers traveling through Sapling Spur Outpost and Green Knoll are being recruited to help save the mighty city.* Spire Shadow Outpost was forced to move close to the Lower Emerald River due to a pack of kobolds that has moved in from Steamfont. Adventurers are being sought to help remove this threat.* Adventurers within The Nursery will once again find harvestable resources available.

Please assemble any feedback and bugs that you may find in the zone in this thread; quests, population, etc. This should help us keep it all as organized as possible.

Thank you, everyone!

~Kaitheel

Question: If we did any of the Greater Faydark quests before, will we be gated from doing these new ones like we were for some GU57 quest changes?

Not so much a Greater Faydark bug, but a couple bugs with the new housing extensions.

Gorowyn's Timorous Heights, there's a spot in the fencing that you can slip through, bringing you to the rest of Timorous Deep.

Aerie Amree, in Kelethin, has a bugged appearance of Kelethin. Visually you can see it here.

If you completed Into Crushbone Territory before, you wont be able to finish the new Into Crushbone Territory from Seren Leafsway, which stops you from possible more new quests in the Crushbone Area.

But I do need to resolve the issue that you cannot finish Seren's version of "Into Crushbone Territory" if you have completed other quests given by Tuathil Laeds.

Thank you for reporting this!

~Kaitheel

He was showing a chart of GFay how it currently is, and the level ranges in different areas, and the quest hubs in different areas. Mostly highlighting how screwy it is to have quests that send you all the way across the zone and back, and having level 8-9 mobs next to level 16-17 mobs, etc.

The new quest philosophy would be to have a more linear progression (both in physical location and level of mobs) through the zone. For instance, 1-4 in the Nursery, 5-8 in the Sapling Spur Outpost, 9-10 at Orc Hill, 11-12 at Granite Hills, 13-14 at Tunare's Glade, 15-17 at Spire Shadow Outpost, 18-19 at Emerald Lake/Sapphire Pond, 20-21 at Crushbone. That's probably wrong, but it was that sort of idea. I remember they had charts and maps and everything to go along with it.

There's no view predicate on them. I've increased the numbers of spawns and reduced the respawn time for the Growzzat corpses, and the number of possible spawns now does not exceed the number of spawn points. Let's have a look at this again after the next test update and see if that fixes the problem. Thanks for the testing help and feedback.

Removed quests still count. The only quests that don't are the missions in fact. They just cannot be redone by new chars (and it's the reason why some questers asked the top questing achievement not to be decapped from 5000 to 6000 with SF : new players cannot reach this number of quest). (you may want to check http://eq2.fluffy.dk/ for an exhaustive list of quests (removed and active)

Basically, your char will still have the same quest count in EQ2 achievements and in EQ2 players after GU58 hits and you'll be able to do the added quests, but you won't be able to do the removed quests on any chars that has not done them previously. No quests from GU57 were removed in GU58 as far as I can check.

The zone looks great, and I will be reporting bugs as I find them. Just one question I have to ask. Why with all the stuff the EQ2 community is asking for are you redoing ANOTHER newbie zone? That question only has one answer, which is once again, EQ2x. You really couldn't even wait 1 GU to satisfy your current customer base could you?

I'd like to give my solid thumbs-up to this zone revamp. I actually spent more time documenting than I did running back and forth across the zone!
Well I'm late starting on this, been on vacation! But from what I've done in the zone so far, I've found a couple /typos and then these are worth mentioning I think:

For the quest "To Echo Echo" there's no directions in the NPC dialogue or the quest text to where Echo Echo Canyon is, and there's no highlighted area on the map. I'm pretty sure there wasn't a red quest completion marker immediately visible on the map for the end NPC either. As these are starter questlines for newbies, I think it would help to add "to the south" or something to the quest text and/or put something on the map, otherwise it's not really clear what direction to go at this point.

There's something odd about the placement of the buckets of water for the quest "News from the South". Every time I approached one and clicked on it I kept getting "Can't see target" error messages until I moved around them and tried different positions to get them to work. I am playing a fae, so I'm somewhat smaller than other characters if that's relevant.

In fact it did make me wonder at the time why the NPC talked about them being hard to see, when they weren't at all. You might wish to re-visit that bit of dialogue now.

Some more findings...

1) The quests aren't entirely linear for levels and areas, if that was the intention. When you go to the druid ring in the directions to climb the tree for "Behind Orc Lines", you pick up the quests "The Fang of the Wolf" and then "The Claw of the Bear". The latter is level 12 whilst the main quest line is only level 10 at "Vile Tactics" and this sends you westwards, out of this area. It's not a big deal though, the bears are still easy and can be done before you move on.

2) For "A Green Thumb", I found there were lots of "a corrupted sapling" mobs located inside the shaded quest area on the map that the "Dhala's Rejuvenating Bloom" item does not work for. It casts, then fails to update and gives the message in chat "Your target is not a corrupted sapling". This is rather confusing since clearly they are exactly the right type of mob. I was getting more failures than successes, but couldn't see any difference between the saplings that work and those that didn't, or any pattern in their locations for example. It's failing on single mobs, so it's not due to some being linked to orcs. It's not range related either. It took me forever to find enough saplings that would actually work, even tried relogging.

What did work, was when I saw a new sapling spawn right beside me, I quickly used the item on it and it worked fine. I suspect that's not a coincidence. Someone else in the test channel said that once they started to kill a few, they started getting updates when they did the quest. So I think they were getting updates off freshly spawned mobs too. Maybe the other saplings in the area are bugging out when aggroed and reset, and not reset properly or something bizarre like that? Or hmm, the effect says it lasts an hour, so they revert back from cleansed to corrupted saplings and then don't work a second time for another person? That would be closer to the error message!

3) The animation for the weevils on the siege machines is cool. But why have a different, less direct interaction, right-clicking to select the option on it? Took me a minute to figure out what to click on to activate it, I tried to left-click the machine and then tried to use the item from inventory before I found the right-click option.

4) The tree at 464, 1, 202 has little fires to click around the base, but no big burning flames around the tree.

Oh and I LOVE the detailed Faydark map housing item! So pretty, and broadly accurate too. You should add a housing item like this for every large overland zone in the game!

I haven't finished yet, but the server just got taken down...

I then tried grouped treant (failed). Then I went near the northern wall around a tree and tried (failed). I then thought perhaps they were somewhat flagged as "already cured" or something like that. I targeted one, saw no buffs on it (something showing that they had been cured already) but thought "well, I'll try to force a repop". I wiped half of 2 trees and then tried on one of the remaining saplings and it worked well. Those I had tried earlier still didn't work but those remaining around the trees to the north (following the northern wall, close to orc hill) updated. Those that repoped worked too.

I suspected something like what Soresha said, some kind of lasting effect (which would explain why the saplings closest from the quest giver did not work).

I started a character back through the quests beginning in the Nursery, and once she reached Gromphum (sp?) the shroomba fellow who's recently relocated to the end of Echo Echo canyon, her ability to get new quests seemed to end.

The fellow at Sapling Spur had no feather over his head, nor did the Halflings living nearby. Haling them did not trigger the offerings of any quests, either.

I couldn't find any quest to deal with the orcs burning Kelethin... which was disconcerting, since I have characters that live there and would not want to dwell where the city is always afire!

So apparently there are some blockages to those who have done the quests before.

I haven't run her to the new Spireshadow nor Crushbone yet. I'll try that when I get a chance.

(Out-of-game life would pick now to go and get hectic, just when Norrath is getting extra-fascinating. *sigh*)

Heyya Enna!

You had not hit the areas with any new quests. Yes, some of the ones within Sapling Spur do have you fight the orcs, but they are slight variations on the quests that have always been available there. Where you should go is Green Knoll and Spire Shadow, as these are the locations with new quests for you. And none of the new quests there will be impeded by previous quest advancement.

~Kaitheel

Found a couple of issues with "Treant Tactics":

1) There are four tent locations, but the quest only requires that you destroy three of them, and only three of the tent locations are shown as highlighted dots on the map. The missing one not shown on the map is at 411, 32, 524. This one works fine for updating the quest though.

So should the quest actually be requiring you to destroy all four, rather than picking just three of them? It's worded as "destroying the encampments", to me that implies I should have done them all. In fact the fourth one just disappears by itself once you've got the third update.

2) Each tent has two orcs in it. When the treants show up (and they're a little slow about it!) they only help you kill one of the orcs. Then they just stand there out of combat whilst you're fighting the second orc. Talk about a half-hearted effort to help you!

Also reported a couple more /typos.
