Back in the first or second year Everquest 2 came out there was a live event plague. (Only mildly annoying, they should have added in a debuff-and DoT effect-GET TO IT BERT!!!)

Did that Plague ever get a name?

The odd part, while most hated that plague, it was the first time that I actually made any money off the Broker hunting up Mushroom nodes and making potions to cure the plague. (Back then my Jeweler was still a Scholar-Today I would probably use my SK who's an Alchemist)

Someone in another forum was talking about the Burning Blood incident from WoW, and it reminded me of this. Yes I know I'm probably giving developers Evil Ideas.. Muwahahahaa!

I don't know if that plague ever had a name. Who started that thing anyway? Wasn't it sort of a prelude event to Bloodline Chronicles? I don't think I ever found an answer for that.

Burning Blood incident in WoW was nothing compared to the plague of undeath that rocked Azeroth and Draenor right before Wrath of the Lich King hit.

If I remember correctly, players had to gather some ingredients for alchemists to make an antidote. There was a raid required to go into the Tombs of the Night somewhere and for the alchemist to deliver the antidote to ??

My character was still young at the time and was not involved in the solution. I *think* the followers of Bertoxxulous were involved, but this was at a time when the gods themselves were not on Norrath, so I really don't know.

Yeah my character was too young too only just getting into the 20's and 30's Monk-wise. It was before I joined my First Guild [Fellowship of Qeynos] I think.

Still it was funny, fighting while infected to suddenly see the gnolls you where battling spewing "chunks"

Is it weird that I am Nostalgic for that event?

Hahaha I was one of the few that loved that event, we'd play "tag" with it, and if we were in a group someone would always end up bringing it, then we'd be trying to find out who the infecter was that was spreading it to everyone, good times =P

I had just started working on the final cure when it was discovered on my server. The lesser versions of the cure could get rid of the disease now, and even provide a brief window of immunity. The final cure caused a server wide event that ended the disease permanently.

Probably one of the best events in EQ2's history. Compaired to the WoW plagues...this was done right. While everybody knew the event was going on it didn't radically effect the players. If you wanted to work on the cure, there was a long envolved quest line that only alchemists could participate in. Eventually that lead to a raid zone you needed to clear to get components for the cure.

For the 95% of the server that couldn't participate, you got a minor annoyance that you could try to avoid by staying out of town. It only took 15 minuites for the plague to runs its course if you didn't get infected again. Or could could cure it if you were a priest. Even plagued, it didn't affect your stats so...it was just cosmetic.

At the same time WoW had a new raid boss that gave people a disease dot that would kill top end raiders if not cured. If they got close to anyone, the dot spread. What the devs over there never though of was the idea that an infected person might gate back to town...the number of deaths attributed to this before it was fixed was astounding.

As far as I remember, it was just always known as The Plague Event.

I remember wanting to help out on my original toon, then getting disappointed that only Alchs could do anything. And getting a prestige title on top of it.

I agree though, that it was an interesting event. Wish the devs would do more like that, but involve and reward more than one class.

I was too low myself to participate too. And I missed the KoS event where everyone got cool titles to run around with

Well with Ole'Bert Back I do have to wonder if we will ever see any more virulent plagues, more damaging then The Plague, but not so bad as a death sentence like the WoW misfire.

Perhaps several different kinds at once!

• One that is a percentage DoT (Scales with level etc).

• One that is a Slow (Cancels all speed buffs even mounts)

• One that Transforms the person randomly (HEY who said Bristly could get in on the action!)

• One that is a Ninja-power-drain (Usually the infectious Mobs for those are in Raid Dungeons!)

• One that reverses the effects of Buffs

•One that turns the player into a Plage spreading undead Zombie (A Cure AND Rez needed plus you get -50,000 faction with everyone (City/NPC even to the point of grays swarming you) until cured

...or are these TOO evil?

Trade-skiller's could work on cures (Ala a Trade-skill/Far Sea's Instance but each run-through acts as one part of the puzzle on each plague-that and they have to regain the trust of a certain person in the Sinking Sands ) , while Quelly might also have a few items to help out. While Bert offers an immunity to those who help him and can make the effects more virulent to those around the immune (Typhoid Mary!)

Maybe I am thinking too Evil???
