I did some research, instead of hitting up vox and decided to go with Naggy, since from an outsiders perspective it sounds like Vox has some population issues. The general concensus seems to be that PvP isn't that good in this game but I figured a friend and I would give it a whirl anyways. At this point I've put in a little over an hour and have a level 10 monk, my question to those of you experienced is whether or not I should invest more time into the monk or are they fail in PVP? Similarly my friend is leveling a coercer. Should we reroll before it's too late?

First off, its never too late to reroll... get a hang of pvp on the monk, if you dont like its style, roll another toon...

Monk is fun in PVP, as is coercer... its all different play styles... The only way to learn a class is to play it...

Get the toon to 30+ with some decent AA before you make a judgement call... most toons dont get nearly "into their own" until 40+... meaning you are still using junky T2 spells and havn't gotten many class defining spells yet... so dont give up at 15 or even 20 or 30... play them for a while... make a few toons to play off and on, see what you like best..

Nagafen has always suffered a dearth of new players, even those who are experienced in the game, for a few reasons, but this is the biggest. Allowing PvP at the entry point of the game was always a bad idea. A new player doesn't get a warning. They don't get a tutorial. They just have a big "Kill Me" sign over their head. What is so ****ing hard about adding a tutorial that's mandatory at level 5 on a PvP server? What was it, about three years ago it was asked for? That, or to change the minimum level from 10 to 15. Instead you got PvP XP introduced. Nagafen & Venekor were merged, but the population is stagnant and dying the slow death of attrition. But then maybe that's the goal.

The above is what I had been suggesting for a long, long time on my original account, searchable under Kurindor_Mythecnea.

IMO, such a PvP-oriented tutorial would need specific quests to run the player through the motions, and it would need to contain all the advice I mentioned in this newbie's request for help at PvP at max level? and in my PvP briefing.

IIIIII also still think that the amount of players gained by allowing level locking will be more than those lost due to lacking resolve, by greenhorns, in efforts to be acquainted with successful strategies.

The link I mention in this quote is one worthy of your review, wee greenhorn.

Rerolling, or just a heavily harvesting/tradeskilling/broker hawking-based future could be in store for you if you intend to not be so squishy (i.e. able to leech better until fully PvP geared).

Mastercrafted tends to not be enough to compete, as I hear those with it still end up dying the majority of the time.

I'd also just be sure to attend as many warfields as possible, to stack overland PvP tokens for competition at LVL 30+, the prime tier to rack up PvP tokens being then, or in T5 (40-49).

Mastercrafted spells (Adept 3s/Experts as they're called) and AAs from being powerleveled, are very vital, all which take capital (tradable currency, that being virtual gold/platinum)!

Although you can try going the questing route to obtain AAs, it'd probably be less helpful overall than securing a financial base, though.

Monks are good all the way to the cap. They aren't SK/Zerker levels of overpoweredness but generally speaking all tanks other than guardians are pretty close to the top of the food chain in PvP.

Coercers are very weak early on, get better up to level 40 when they become extremely powerful 1v1. It peters out a little towards the end but they're still ok at 90.

Being new to EQ2 PvP you may not be ready for the unpleasantness that is waiting for you in the level 10-20 zones such as Darklight Woods. Prepare to be killed a lot by people you can't even damage at all. Don't sweat it, just respawn and continue along. Most of the bottom feeders aren't complete arses and will not kill you over and over again. Some will, and if you have the misfortune of encountering these it's best to respawn at the opposite side of zone.

Get your harvesting up, and if you have the time, go for tradeskills and get master crafted done for each character until you can replace it with pvp or fabled gear.

I play a Coercer now, but started with an Illy as they feel stronger for a bit until charm actually works. Not sure when that is as I waited until 49 to betray, but Coercer is a decent pvp'er but needs to be geared well, which now I'm not and suffering for it in open pvp. (I'm working to get to 90 so I'm not really interested in gearing out at this time). They are fun imho, but if you read the enchanter postings, I guess we are not that good @ end game, still going to get there to find out for myself.

Anyways, welcome to the server and have a good time.
