I have found a workaround. Go to your data folder for Everquest II extended.

Windows 7 is C:ProgramDataSony Online EntertainmentInstalled GamesEverQuest II Extended

Locate the file called "EverQuest2.exe".

Run this. It will start loading and then prompt you for password.

The network issue that was causing the LaunchPad from loading should now be resolved.

-dan

Your ProgramData folder is most likely hidden which is why you are unable to locate the folder in question. You will need to show hidden files and folders to move forward. If you are unfamiliar with doing this, just let me know what version of Windows you are using so I can go ahead and give you a set of instructions to perform this.

If you still have the EQ2.exe you most likely have the original launcher that shipped with the game. This launcher is being phased out so I recommend using the EverQuest II Streaming Client.

So, trying the streaming client again and yeah, 12gb of updates. Methinks that's not just today's patch.

It doesn't correctly identify the current installation of eq2, and doen't recognize my characters so I have to import my UI's from the other copy of eq2. pain in the butt, did some mad scientist design the launcher?

In addition, it does not put up a desktop icon nor am I amble to find it on my hard drive to put an icon up. I tried downloading (not running but saving) the streaming client to no avail.

As of now I'm too disgusted to play. For the 3rd time in 3 months a new installation of eq2 is on my computer and I'm really not in the mood for resetting each of my character's UI's. I've thought of pasting the old UI's into the new installation of eq2, as I have them copied into a separate folding awaiting such. But as I stated above, I can't find the new instance of eq2 on my hard drive. And, I really don't feel like linking to the streaming client from this thread again, telling it I don't need adobe flash, once again saying yes to an eq2 directory to repair that is incorrect (no option to select from harddrive?? madness.) seeing that 12GB file size it wants to download and watching that stupid dragon run.

If you're steering me twards the streaming client because you believe my installation of eq2 is outdated we're probably following a red herring.

I was able to find out where the streaming client was installing a new version of eq2, in a folder that already had stuff like "My Videos, My Photos.." I think you get the picture.

Rather than try to sort that out, I found the launcher and used it. One thing I find curious is that it doesn't ask me to log in, doesn't show my character list, doesn't allow me to auto log in, just takes me straight to the character select screen when I hit "Play" Given the recent rash of accounts being hacked, isn't it a plus to have people log in rather than have the program do it? Additionally, when I right click on said launcher it doesn't give me the option to copy to desktop as a short cut, so I have to go to this folder every time I want to launch the game.

So while we have a work around, it's half baked and detracts from quality play time. UI still not functioning correctly, coldain butler invisible (but still very chatty) on two toons, not able to change chat options on 2 characters (same two that have the invisible butler fyi.)

Please make sure you are connected to the internet and try again."

There are reports over at the Steam forums of many other people having this same error across multiple SOE games (including EQ2 and DCUO), so I know it's not a problem on my end.

I just came back to EQ2 from taking a 4 year hiatus (and as you can see, I've been a subscriber to EQ2 since launch day, and have been a subscriber to SOE since 2003), and so far I haven't been impressed with what I've seen since I've been back. This makes the second time in a week I have seen a major issue with SOE's LaunchPad network preventing me from logging into any of their games, and that's not looking very good considering I've only been playing again for less than 2 weeks.
