View Full Version : Disabling the welcome screen

Prior to GU57 putting "cl_show_welcome_screen_on_startup 0" in the eq2.ini disabled the window on startup. Why does this not work anymore? Is this a (pathetic) attempt to promote Station Cash?

As temporary solution I just put an empty file "eq2ui_mainhud_welcome.xml" in my custom UI folder to get rid of the pop up. But this way the window won't work at all of course.

Is there a way to disable the pop up, but keep the window intact?

There are some work arounds posted at eq2interface forums.

With the command in place we can stop the pop-up on login and still open the window later. Without the command the only ways to shut the window off on log-in disable the window completely and permanently. I'd think marketing would prefer the former to the latter.

I hope so too. I set the window size to 0,0 on my welcome screen so i couldn't even look at it if i wanted to.

It has been hard coded in from what i can see. I switched back to the old Welcome Screen (all you have to do is change the version) and the command still doesn't work. So seems like not being able to disable it like previous is actually the intent

Autoclosing welcome screen

I use this. The welcome screen displays for 1/100th of a second before closing itself automatically.

That is virtually the same as changing size to 0,0 (ie it is completely unuseable)

At first I thought this was the answer lol, but then I noticed even if you try to open it yourself it will auto-close

So the only way to effectively remove it for me is to edit the XML and change the maximum size of the window to 0,0. This only works if you copied the file and made a custom UI folder though. if you edit the one in the default folder, the patcher would just undo the changes. So basically theres something in the XML script somewhere, that HAS to be there. I'm not sure what, but without it the game crashes.

That permanently hides the window. That is the plan i went with. Since i never look at the welcome screen in the first place, it was feasible for me to do it this way.

It is actually a change that makes it work like it did before SOE changed it. Quite ingenious.

For me the 0,0 thing works as I never look at it ever. But some wanted it to not open but still be able to use it later if they so want and Luinne's method does just that.

EDIT:Seems like the new way still doesn't let you open the window later either, so back to the drawing board

I think you have to change some visibility properties in the window file before it works, but I don't know which (as said before, UI noob ). Or is the problem something else?
