When that happened to me, I was able to fix the issue by logging in on a different computer and moving the toon to another zone.

I am having the same problem, with TD and Gfay, and all of my toons but two i hardly play are in TD or Gfay so i don't have much to do. i asked the technical support chat, and they said i might have to wait until tomorrow to be able to log onto my characters.

Well earlier this morning it was impossible to know what was because of updates or what was local. It's not generally a C++ error thing, but do you have custom UI's that freaked out because of the GU?

Is everyone here getting this using the Streaming Launcher, but if you use a computer that's still on Station Launcher you're just fine?

If you are using the streaming client, please try renaming your 'assetcache' folder and see if the issue goes away. New art was added to the starting areas with GU57 and you would crash if the client did not patch those new assests down properly.

Update: I added a workaround to try in a later post in this thread). You can try it if redownloading all your existing assets is a problem.

Won't that cause a full re-download?

My issue hasn't been crashing, it has been lack of some of the new items (specifically in New Halas) like the new barricades and sunken ship and some changes to the shoreline. I have a friend playing right next to me who sees the new things, yet I do not. Both of us using the streaming patcher, although his was a fresh install and mine was a conversion from the old launchpad recently.

So I did as recommended and it is streaming but I was able to log back in to Frostfang Sea and now the new zone objects/art are present.

This does need to be examined though, as there is no reason to have to re-stream the entire game whenever there is a modification to a zone...

It seems there was a short amount of time after the servers came back up that there were some bad files that went out. Those players (myself included) who got right in were the ones affected, so it is likely your friend logged in after the issue was resolved. So, it's not that the file was updated, just that there was an unfortunate bug.

Ah alright then, that does actually seem to correspond, as I was logging in around the time the servers came up, and he did not attempt to log in until later in the evening.

Thanks!

We are working on a solution for this issue, but not sure when it will be implemented.

If deleting the assetcache would cause you to redownload a ton of info (and your comfortable editing a file), this solution should fix your existing assetcache:

1. Locate your streaming install directory (you can right-click and chose properties on your desktop shortcut and see the install path on the 'Target' and 'Start In' lines)

2. Right-click the EverQuest2.exe file in that directory and choose "Create Shortcut " (not a copy). Name it something like EverQuest2AssetFix.exe.

3. Right-click and chose properties on the newly created shortcut file

4. On the shortcut's 'Target' line, paste cl_forceDBCRCRecalc true; cl_resource_address http://eq2.patch.station.sony.com/p...q2/assets/live/ at the end of the existing text.

So, it would look something like this:

"C:Install Location PathEverQuest2.exe" cl_forceDBCRCRecalc true; cl_resource_address http://eq2.patch.station.sony.com/p...q2/assets/live/

*NOTE: The p...q2 part is actually patch/eq2 (not sure how to prevent the forums from cropping it).*

5. Click Apply and OK to save the changes

6. Now launch the client using that shortcut and you should see an EQ2 window pop-up with a progress bar (this is the CRC check running and verifying the correct assets are downloaded). Once this finishes the client should start and your assetcache will hopefully be fixed.

7. After running this once, you can switch back to launching the client through the launcher

Note: Make sure to run the patcher first to grab any new client files from the recent update before launching the client using just the the .exe file for those files do not stream down. You need to run the patcher after any update to get the newest client files.

This works indeed (Darklight Woods cave and treestump in GFay available now which they weren't before), thanks for the information, some additional information on this though:

1. If you add the lines to the shortcut make sure to replace the ... in the link with /patch/eq2/ instead of /p...q2/

2. I started EQ2 from the shortcut through the CRC check all the way to the char select screen. Then I closed EQ2 as suggested and started the streaming patcher. The client had the mind of redownloading all files, so I closed the patcher and restarted it, he checked the assets again and downloaded approx. 50 MB and after starting the game then everything worked.

Again thank you for not making me download 12,7 GB again!

Best regards and good night (midnight here in GER)

Pijotre Kajek of LDL

Perhaps they could copy all of their files to a thumb drive and copy over yours? Not a great fix, but it should work.

I did this and it updated the 12MB but now I cannot log into the game. I get to character select and I hit play and it goes through the loading sequence and then gets stuck at "Updating environment map." The progress bar never moves and It just sits there for as long as I would let it.

It is just happening on my character that is currently in Timorous Deep.

Fixed it by deleting the shortcut that I created, as per the instructions, after it patched. I can play now and Gfay, DLW, TD are all fixed.

What can one (try to) do who is not using a streaming client and encounters those "stuck with waiting for zone server" problems?
