Is the cl_show_welcome_screen_on_startup 0 setting bugged with the lastest update? Or is this command changed?

That the command to disable the welcome screen? Would imagine its disabled as they want you to see all 2/3 of the page worth of SC items.

Seems the new welcome screen isn't filtered by this?

I merged 2 topics that were about the same issue here to save some confusion. Thank you!

Yes I'm just hoping the way to disable this one is diff. from old one. If someone figures this out, please share! =)

I hope they either make this command work again or provide an option to not show the welcome screen on startup. I've been playing the game for years, most of what's displayed on it I just don't need to see anymore and all it does is annoy me to have to dismiss that screen every single time I log in. I suspect it's going to similarly annoy new players too: "I saw that when I logged in this morning too. Nothing's changed. Why are you bothering me with this? Get out of my way so I can play.".

Makes perfect sense with their mindset though. We have an SC button we can't get rid of, so it wouldn't be out of character for them to have changed this so that you are now FORCED to look at marketplace items.

And here I was a couple of weeks past, posting about how SOE is at least willing to compromise with players on some issues like the ability to disable the "welcome screen" on login by providing the option in the eq2.ini file. Looks like I'll be eating my hat on this issue.

To make matters pathetically worse, they don't even provide current information on the welcome screen. The left side is mostly dead space, the daily mission and hotzone information is for T8 and the list goes on. If they're going to show this to us every time we enter the game, it would be incredibly special of them to at least show information that's relevant.

This is ridiculous SOE.... we are not as dumb as you think we are! We know full well what you are up to. We get it, you want us to use SC. But forcing this stupid welcome window back on us after the original uproar is a big ol finger to your player base.

Also, if you have access to your old default UI prior to today, you can copy the old welcome screen (eq2ui_mainhud_welcom.xml) into a custom UI folder.

EQ2 will complain it isn't compatiable and can't load it... but it kills the new one!

Of course, the next update will probably check to make sure that the window is of a certain minimum size and in a visible location on the screen; they can't have you disable their advertising, now can they? In fact, it wouldn't surprise me at all if they made changes to ensure that this window wasn't moddable whatsoever and always pulled its configuration from the standard, default location.

Just add a OnShow="togglewelcomewindow" to the root tag, start of eq2ui_mainhud_welcome.xml should look like this:<Page OnShow="togglewelcomewindow" Activated="true"

The welcome screen will close itself immediately, flashing only a bit.

If we get to a point of paying to play a game that we have to go out of our way to hide from its probably time to ask why we are still playing. Just a thought.

Disabling this switch was not a good move IMO. We all understand you want to shove the SC thing front and center, we get it but that window has had other issues (increases load time, pops up everytime you switch toons, etc). And forcing it on your players wont get people to buy more, it will cause them to either find some work around to it or stop buying anything from you and go elsewhere.

Seriously, SOE needs better marketing people and a better understanding of (1) What their paying community wants (2) What their paying community is willing to pay to get it.

I just dont really see a mass exodus from WoW to EQ2 going to happen anytime soon. Please stop wasting dev cycles on low end content and fixes we dont want or need.
