Tanks. Tanks and Druids are all I've played in both EQ and EQ2. When I started an SK here in EQ2 I was able to find some excellent solo/duo guides, helping direct me in both play styles and AA placement. I decided to start a Wizard for a change of pace. Problem I'm running into is I have found plenty of guides both here and other places but they all seem to be geared toward the "Raid" Wizy. I intend on trying to solo some and duo with my wifes' Ranger once in awhile. I know that things will be a bit different seeing as Wizys are more group minded. I guess where I need direction is in the beginning AA's. I'm level 16 now with 19 AAs and really would appreciate some guidance (.ie, others starter AA suggestions). Any help or direction toward a good guide would be great. I prettymuch know the basics ( Int is our friend).

Not that I am grumbling (except that I am) , but you should have read the top thread in this forum first.

Okay, there was a thread where you may want to read: http://forums.station.sony.com/eq2/...topic_id=480393 - it contains some basic ideas about these first AAs spending (at least read my reply and another thread I was referencing). I know, I know, you do not want to look at wizards from raiding viewpoint - you should be able to maximize your damage output if you want to be able to deal with heroic content as a solo or duo class. If you do not run with a good healer, you will not be able to be a tank period. So you have no other way than to be a good damage dealer.

"Wizys are more group minded" - no, they are not. Wizards can be what you want them to be.

Ranger is a fun class to duo with, be sure you both can root and snare exceptionally well - or you will be toast in most situations.

Good luck!

I soloed my wizard to 80, and then almost to 90. It actually took me a while to learn how to group once I hit 80 and started raiding with him. =)

I love my wizard, though. It is a great class, which requires actual skill and thought to play. Other classes (a LOT of other classes) can rely on a mega-macro that just spams their spells / CAs and they can watch movies while raiding... Wizard is one of the few classes that, IMHO, requires an attentive player to perform at peak proficiency. I'm by no means a great wizard (I'm on the same server as Dakkota and Taliesan, so I'm well aware of my shortcomings) but the more you learn about the class the better you do.

Wizard is a thinking player's class... thinking your way through the battle makes you more effective and survivable. Read a lot on this forum, and also on the eq2flames.com wizard forum. READ there, do NOT post on flames. too many arrogant pricks there to actually communicate with, but a LOT of good stuff if you just stay quiet and read.

Iscani Emeraldflame

90 / 250 Wizard of Antonicas Nameless

Unrest

I took a stab at making a guide and started with saying this

Most and Many parts of this will be mentioned under the assumption of a raiding wizard. If you only do PUG's on your wizard the same will basically apply. Our Role is the same in either situation and this guide is to assist that role so if anything this will contain bonus/extra information for non-raiders.

We get things dead...the only lacking information you wouldn't find in a group/raiding guide is how to better use our few solo aiding spells. 2 roots, 5m aoe snare etc. You get a feel for those anyway, just figure out which spells snare, root and have KB/stun components and use them when you see fit. As far as AAs you choose I would still say its best to just spec maximum DPS, our survivability spec tactics are nothing special and if anything better suited for PvP (though I don't think they are too hot there either).

And yeah on Flames your better off finding someone good to PM, or just realizing what people say doesn't matter, post your questions anyway, and sift through close-mindedness and find a good reply or two. Can always PM me but I admittedly don't always do good with answering questions...but i'm always up for one. Or you can just sift through the guide I wrote...I wrote it mostly trying to include what I would reply to questions with regardless. I don't think theres much that bounces around my mind, that I left out of there.
