Yay Velious!

SoE, please save us from the muck you dragged us through with these last two expansions. I think you can do it, I really do. Less RMT dev work and more Equipment and Itemization work.

The Lore in TSo was bad but I liked the itemization. The Lore AND the Itemization are awful in SF. Don't make the game GENERIC. I dont want 4 different generic plate BP's that are a tiny bit better than the previous one. Give us items we KNOW BY NAME. We know where to find them and who we have to kill to get them. It's fun. Read up on it.

Also that Dark Elf Heritage Armor makes me kind of mad; since I retired from raiding, going for Appearance gear has been at least something to do...don't take that away from me by putting the best looking stuff on SC.

How fast will these flying mounts be? Will we want to use them instead of the griffon towers, sokokars, or what have you, to get around?

The Video looked cool, just remember, please no outdoor mazes! Wide open spaces think Commonlands or Antonica Super-sized! I don't mind climbable areas like a lone mountain in the middle just not for getting to point A to point B.

I know that the Carpets Clouds and various Disks are not flying, any chance of the Sokkakar being one, maybe a slow one?

Also, I was glad to read that among the 6 raid instances they'll introduce in Velious, some of them were designed for 12 players!

I hope though that if they plan X2 raids, they'll remember the success of WoE and aim that king of raids to casual players.

They don't have to be trivial, they can be hard, but doable with good gear (MC/Legendary/Token).
SOE... Please don't mess this up. I, and many like me, hold Velious as a fond MMO memory from EQ days. I retired from EQ to play EQ2 and have been pretty disappointed with the last 2 expansions (although RoK was great for me).

Do yourselves a favor and poll the EQ players about what they loved about Velious and check that against what you are doing now. I see a push for things like flying mounts and zone quantity, but that in no way lines up with my expectations as a person who played and raided through that expansion in EQ1.

Velious in EQ1 was the first truely great expansion. Although RoK was good, Velious brought on truely epic quests, raids and content. Zones were absoluetly huge in comparison to previous content. Quests like the Coldain Shaw and Coldain Rings were so epic they are still referred to today. TBH, I've yet to see any event in any game as impressive as the 10th ring war of the Coldain Ring quests. The whole server would converge just to watch back in the day and there is nothing like that in game now... and that's a shame.

Beyond the paragraphs I could go into about this paticular content, I'll make two points about expansions in general:

1 - I hope this is a FEB release because you guys plan to have itemization (including graphics) done BEFORE release. Getting a disco on loot that looks like the last tier junk loot is beyond disappointing and unforgivable. If it isn't done, don't release it.

2 - Keep in mind some guilds will blow through this content almost immediately, especially if easymode is available on dungeons. Everyone will push through EM first for progression updates, then go back for HardMode. So the message? Don't introduce a bottleneck mob that can't be killed because the last tier stuff isn't finished with testing. Have the contect done on release or don't release it.

Oh hai, forgot one important thing. It sucks now that anybody (even PUGs) can raid ALL of the content. Return to the Sleeper days and give raiders a zone they earn access to.

...and if you guys make tier 1-2-3 raid armor with 1-3% increase per level and crap graphics again... well, just be prepared for backlash. Remember how Sleeper weapons had a proc that no other weapon in game had... yeah, there you go.

I would like to see raiding more accessable. I love the battlegrounds Q that pulls from all servers, maybe a raid Q could do the same? If not a pull from all servers at least a pull from the server you are on. No im not a diehard raider due to time schedules I must keep in real life but the 4hrs here and there I can play would be greatly improved if there was such a Q or set up that would tailor to my needs(and others like me)

My comments about special loot were the things that made EQ great, and RoK for that matter as later stated. Everyone having access to everything just because they are level 90 is stupid and does nothing to reward a guild for hours and hours of progression work.

I don't know about your server, but on mine you can buy T3 (top tier) armor in auction and be as well equip'd as ANYONE on the server without ever killing a single raid mob. That's just stupid. Give the core raiders something great to work toward and reward them for months of work when they get there. Don't just make everything farm status so any plat farmer on the server can be uber geared. That just drives all kinds of bad things including well geared players who guilds assume are great because they are fully geared, but yet they can't do anything with the toon.

In the old days if a player had and item "x", it meant they were skilled enough to do it themselves. That's what I want to see.

My hope is that they will change their direction a bit and make an expansion pack like "Echoes of Faydwer". It really baffles me that the EQ2 team have not followed EoF's model. In EoF we really got a great expansion pack! It provided zones for all levels. For returning customers (i.e. a large part of SOE's potential income as every x-pack shows) it really entices us for the ability to have new places to play at all levels. For new players it provides more diversity. And for veterans it provides more incentives for them to "mentor" new and returning players to earn more AA exp as well as encourage newbs to stay onboard. As it stands, from about level 25 to about 85 our zones are limited with the current expanion pack planned.

Devs, please highly consider returning to what made EoF a great expansion pack!

I never said mid-range content was bad, just that given the current trend in expansion size they don't have the ability to provide enough high-end content to keep that group happy while still providing mid-range content as well in the expansion. The current trend seems to be more along the lines of low- to mid-range content being added or updated in GUs with the actual expansions reserved for the high-end stuff. The trend also seems to focus on reworking and improving existing content rather than adding all new, which I support since it can be done more quickly and since it does not lead to 5-10 different places to go for the same levels. I'd rather see that continue to happen in GUs rather than just more low-end zones added on top in expansions and the old zones left to rot (or continue rotting, as the case may be).

Adding mid range content does not do much for vets. Midrange content does not off upgrades to gear or introduce difficulty. Mentoring to see the new content would be trevial to those mentored. AA would be pointless as most gains would be cut due to the mentoring. Revamp the old stuff all you want but keep new content for the higher ups

The discussion on levels is mute, all of that was decided before the first whiteboard was drawn up, and all the zone maps and content maps are already been completed in rough form. Nothing of this magnitude is going to change now.

IMO low level zones are a waste going forward in a game 6 years in. There are 6 unique starting zones now, which is more than most people will have alts. Not to mention the average level of each account main has to be 80+ at this point and brand new subscriptions I'm sure have been on the decline for years now. SOE needs to keep people playing and provide content of such quality that old players will return. I'm hopeful DoV will do just that.

From what they said at FanFaire, Velious is split - this is only the begining of it. More will be released as the game continues, either with live updates or the next expansion or (most likely, I think) both.

Honestly, that seems to be the current trend. New expansions have less content, but new content is released most GUs - an instance, a raid, new live events, etc. I suspect this is, in part, to reduce the number of accounts that activate for the new expansion, power-play through it in 2-3 months, then cancel the account until the next expansion.

As for the flying mounts, and current "flying" mounts that don't actually fly, we were it's unlikely current mounts will fly - they'll think about fae learning it. The new flying mounts are going to be quested, so don't expect to get one on your new lvl 20 alt. They will be faster in the air than current mounts, but no word on if they'll be faster than in-zone mounts (griffons and such). They will also be able to run on the ground, probably not as fast as they can fly. They will work in all overland zones, which will have curved ceilings - ie, you can get really high up mid-zone, but heading towards the zone boundaries it will come down and herd you towards the regular zone lines. So no getting to TS from Antonica by flying over the Hidden Vale. Sky zones might have a floor - or they might just leave the auto-kill spot if you fly too low. Players cannot engage in combat in the air - but they didn't say whether players fleeing combat could take to the air, not that I wrote down anyway. And at the time it was not planned for the hide-mount option to work on flying mounts, so unless they change their minds we won't be able to fly around like Superman. Since we didn't know we'd be getting appearance mounts at the time, no one asked if we'll be able to override the appearance of flying mounts with regular mounts - personally, I'm hoping to ride around on a flying Nightmare or Mist Runner.

Yeah, okay, I took a lot of notes on the trivial stuff...

Once "knocked off" your mount by an arrow or a spell, you cannot re-mount agin until you are out of battle.

So . . .. if they take their. . . .Lead? from Blizzard. . . .I dont think we will have much to worry about.
I've been concerned that it's digital all the way this time around and from now on.Here's my reasoning:

As of yet, there is no pre-order on any previously known seller, such as Amazon, GameStop, BestBuy, etc., and this is usually done at least 2 months prior (at least in my recollection, but I could be wrong).

It's quite easy for them to sell you an expansion digitally now and they save the cost of manufacture, printing, and distribution. They have the system in place for purchasing items via SC credits including expansions.

If you look at what is available on EQ2x it's obvious that they are going to continue to expand the available purchasing options for the game and in my estimation this will include expansions.

At this late time, especially since the offical release is slated for early Feb., it seems unlikely that we will see a boxed copy or a boxed collector's edition; I won't hold my breath on it.

I know things must change as the world is not what it used to be when EQ2 was first released, but it's nice to buy a boxed copy of something with real media.

I don't find this strange at all. You need to think as SOE (and maybe have some business understanding).

* It will be digital download. It cost less. (And all subs have internet access).

* The whole marketing budget goes to EQ2X. It is where SOE thinks they can add subscribers. (Probably they have failed to add subs to EQ2 thru marketing or it didnt pay off).

* EQ2 players don't need marketing. They already know about DoV. Therefore no marketing now.

* DoV will probably come to EQ2 first and to EQ2X later. Thus, marketing for DoV can be done later, at release for EQ2X.

* EQ2 players will get new content first (or can be seen as paying testers, which ever you prefer).

There's far more to do than any one person could ever accomplish. The reason you continue to play is because it's a good game. It's just human nature to whine and complain. Human nature annoys me. The main mistake Sony has made with this game is trying to appease all the whiners.

I really dislike the idea of digital download being the only way to get Destiny of Velious.I do understand the logistics behind DVD-ROM media files being out of date with SOE starting their betas so late in the process and the constant update work they do. However, even if I must re-patch 50-70% of the new files that still saves me hours of patching on the other 50-30%. Plus other customers will be using those same download servers and maybe downloading the entire compilation pack instead of just the new files. That is a ridiculous amount of downloading that some folks will be doing. My paks directory alone as of today is 10.7 GB. That puts serious lag and competition for downloading on the servers. If SOE is truly going to do digital download only they need to say something soon and offer a pre-order at a discounted price since they will see 100% of the profit. If they are not paying for DVD masters and such then we shouldn't be expected to pay the same price we did for Sentinel's Fate where I did get a really nice box, media, and extras. Early downloads of some content for folks pre-order flagged would also be a good thing. I would love to have most of this downloaded and just need to do a small patch on launch day and go.Thanks.PS: If SOE is expecting some kind of delay for the launch to finish the expansion and make it better then that is totally cool with me. Finish it. But please let us know ASAP. You promised February 8th and that is less than a month away. Sometimes companies can't make their promises and letting your customers now as soon as possible is the best policy.
