Anyone plan on playing? How are the rangers in that game?

Let's talk about someting that gets me excited like when I am going to /quit this game for a better one.

Or, how much will I dance in joy when I can leave this game because the lack of options is the only thing keeping me here.

Very much anticipating that game, as well as a lot of other VG veterans I know. I checked out the ranger class, for me it will depend on how smooth combat is with their pets. I loved my VG ranger, and while her pet was a nice distraction for solo pulls, she never needed it. I'm not really into playing a necro with arrows though haha. So excited about playing a game that allows people to constantly switch around aspects of their class too! I also read they'll have collections - how can I not be excited? :p

The way they explain it, Rift rangers are archer for offense, pet for defense. Even says without the pet they are dangerous but have little defense. I'm hoping thats the way it turns out to be, because i never liked how WoW hunters were so pet dependent.

Also I love my level 50 VG ranger, they are one of the few remaining testaments of what I think makes an excellent ranger class in a MMO.

I don't want to be a pet class. A ranger with some utility in the form of a pet is nice but I don't want it to be class defining or "needed" in any way.

The game does look nice.

I'm there. I'm signed up for beta and eagerly awaiting more details on the game and especially the Ranger class. Hopefully, it won't turn into yet another disappointing game that could have been.

its not like a form you fill out, there is a thread on the discussion forums for them where you write up your MMO and testing experience and why you want to be in the beta. It is only one of several places they will be pulling applicants from.

Rift is the game I'll be leaving for but I've made proactive changes until I go. Already betrayed and am not regretting it at all. Have also been playing my 90 sk a lot when my guilds primary tanks want to jaunt on their alts.

I am mixed on the pet thing for Rifts ranger class. BL was one of my favorite classes in original eq and I liked hunters in WoW, but I'm worried they are going to be a leveling "spec" or something less wanted for end game. Really though it doesn't matter and that's the thing I love the most. Respec'ing is not only encouraged, but it's the norm. I can be a ranger all frillin day, re-attune souls for my raid, and go right back to hugging critters and shooting things in the face the second i'm done. I'm really excited to see how good the trion crew proves to be. With that kind of malleability, they could really go buck wild on encounter design and make it were you would need to be a ranger one raid/group and something another.

And [Removed for Content] b e a s t l o r d is a censored word!?! Yeah the eq2 [Removed for Content] can kiss my place the sun don't shine when Rift comes out. I'll be back for EQnext, but this is getting ignorant.

"Rift is even eschewing ammo for its ranged classes just like Cataclysm will." - Massively

Well, that's a hell of a step up.

They showed off a bunch of new classes as well. Including Marksman, pure archer. So not so worried about being stuck with Ranger if they end up being WoW hunters.

The guys over at Trion Worlds should send a nice fruit basket to S.J. This GU has done more for Rift then it's done for EQ2.

Aside from being beastmasters (again! sigh..) rangers seem to have similar priority in development as blade dancers (swash) and assasssins. Sheer amount attention should be enough to polish the class to where we like it. I signed up for beta and hopefully will have a chance to help on improving Rift rangers, so they don't end up like EQ2 cousins.
