I noticed my mage pet moves up throughout the fight as it progresses. Eventually being in melee range. I remember this happening back in KoS and they ended up fixing it so it didnt. I think before the pet was running out of spells to cast so it was going for melee attacks.

Thinking that with the increased casting speeds this xpac that its doing that again or maybe its something else anyone have any ideas. I have the pet set to ranged only.

My pet tends to wiggle a lot as well. To offset this, I have macro'ed Call Servant in with Blazing Avatar, thus keeping my pet near my location fairly consistently throughout a fight.

I myself get annoyed with the little bugs like this.

There is another very common one for me with the x2, Some names in Labs (raid zone), and Palace (raid zone)..

The pet can't see the target, looks like its attacking, but not actually hitting the target!! Frustrating! Along with that is your problem where the pet loves to run in on the mob that has some nasty AoE's and one shots our pets ..

The call method mentioned is a neat little idea, I just became customed to calling my pet every 30 seconds on que, its almost part of a cast order lol

Yeah that happened to me last night in Labs...we were on the first fight, and I looked at the parse right after and got beat by half the raid! I'd just respec'd, so I figured my new spec was crap and got mad, knowing I'd have to either pay 10p to respec or wait a month with a broken one. Then I looked closer at ACT and realized the dang pet never attacked! We had flat, level, clear line of sight, so he must've decided to take a cat nap or something. Bloody cats.

Keep in mind with your pet, he must have line of sight to the feet of the mob. On large mobs, generally the spot is the floor in dead center of the hit box.

Its stupid, but that's how it works in my experience.

Yeah from my experiences its really based on the fight and where you are.Gozak from last expansion was horrible cause my pet would hug him and every time I'd call back, hed run right back to him and hug him again. Basically the AI must have thought that from the location we were at, it didn't have line of sight (even though it was still casting all the time) and so it reacted accordingly. I know its not always feasible but if you find fights where its a problem try moving around and seeing if you can find a place thats not far from the healer or overly dangerous for you that the pet can attack from without freaking out.

As far as pet attacking, theres some spots too where it doesn't like to attack from, worst place I remember was the bottom floor of KT and some other voidy places like the hallway in ooa. Sometimes little bumps in the floor just make the pet confused or something I dunno. But best way probably is to one make sure you get confirmation from your chat box that "you sent your pet in to attack" and make sure you see the bright yellow numbers appear above the mob that indicate the pet's damage or if you like see if its doing its casting animations. Cause often times in these locations, you'll at least get a, "You may not send in your pet to attack that target" or something similiar which will tell you the pet has a problem with that spot or whatever.

It's a pain for sure though.

Yeah,

Whats awesome is sending our pet in to attack the adds on Klaaktus... talk about a waste of time. The pet can't see the adds, but does the animation of attacking.. tricky little bugger!

So I remove my "Pet Attack" macro I setup on a few spells, and just lock him down on klaaktus and I just assist the raid with the adds. Kind of pathetic the way the summoners in our guild have to do that, but its the only way to get dps up... doing this also means I have to save EB for only the name, targeting the adds and pressing EB will force the pet to target that add and try and cast EB on it, it will cast it, the spell won't hit, and it will be wasted!

I have found some pretty hot spots for most of the fights, Waansu was tricky at first, but i used the root/stay command and all worked flawlessly!

The line of sight issue is a Pain. I was getting it all the time against Sarah Greenheart and found out that it was do to the fact that when we pull, we put our backs to the tables; and whenever I'd call my pet, he'd get stuck under the table and wouldn't have line of sight for anything.

One trick that I use myself to help in those situations where we can't tell for sure if the pet is really attacking or just faking it: I have all my pet damage sent to a separate tab. So when in doubt, I just have to check on that tab.

Or just set the pet's overhead combat numbers to a specific color that's easy to see. That's what I've done. No need to check tabs or what have you.

It makes it VERY clear when my pet is attacking... but on some fights like waansu, i have to angle my camera to the ceiling in order to see attack hits..

Don't you have a spell to teleport your pet into your position?

Does a pet need another line of sight/range than the mage him/herself?

(This is a serious question, not sarcasm).

That's why in the first response I suggested macro'ing Call Servant to Blazing Avatar. They have roughly the same re-use and BA is something you'll be casting consistently throughout the fight, thus continually calling your pet to your location.

However, that's not always good enough. The pet doesn't exactly see things the way you see them. Just because "you" can see it, doesn't always mean your pet can see it. Any sort of odd elevational differences tend to make your pet go crazy trying to find a place he can attack from.

Your own position is a good place to start from, but, often you will find yourself wanting to seek out that ideal position for each fight you do. Generally, tell your pet to attack and see where he goes. If his preferred location is a workable location for you, go stand there. If not, relocate yourself and then next time you cast BA, your pet will come to you and try to use that position.

It's simply a matter of finding something that works for both of you.
