Please rethink setting the default crouch key mapping to Z.

Myself and many people I know have been using the Z key for our Push-To-Talk in Vent/Teamspeak/Voice Chat for years, and you are now going to force us to to go in and remap the keys.

The first thing I am going to do when this goes live, is set the key maps for "Persona" screen (it will never be the character scrren for me), to both I and P, and set the crouch back to C.

It was either alt+c or ctrl+c since they changed the new UI window.

Most people I know use their mousewheel for PTT... myself included. *shrug*

Actually z has been autoattack for me since the first week of EQ1.

The default binding of 'A' was too easy to hit when talking to an npc.

As long as I can rebind all this stuff to where its been for 10 years, and they fix the issue of binds getting fubared by switching in and out of BGs, then I don't care.

Just thought I'd mention..

I use C as a hotkey to a combat art. Shift C is my crouch. Z is my cancel spell casting. Middle mouse is my push to talk. (X is auto run and shift X sit)

I'll go and fix it if it's screwed up. I'll be annoyed, but I won't really say anything. I will be remapping I to my character screen and everything else back the way it is.

Why can't you just let the personna/inventory on P or I and let the crouch where it belongs, on C, and not on Zroutch, Proutch, Troutch or wathever?

People have been playing this game for years now and have their hotkeys set and are used to them functioning a certain way. There is no viable reason for remapping the keys now, none.

We learned to click P and open the Persona window. Changing interface piece names is never a good idea for established products. We are accustomed to hitting C to Crouch.

We dont need another mindless timesink that will involve going through and changing the options for a change that wasnt needed to begin with.

Mapping it to "Z" is not an improvement. Leaving crouch mapped to "C" is where it needs to stay. Everyone is used to using "C" as crouch and "P" for persona and "I" for inventory. Everyone one of us on day one of this new update is going to have to go in and remap our keys. Now I know we only have to do this on one character, save the keymap, and reload for each of our other characters.

The problem is not in the doing of this, the problem is that we have to do this at all. The new free servers are already causing enough of an adjustment for your long time subscribers. On top of everything else, we shouldn't have to change the way we play just because new, free players are being told "C" opens up their character window.

You have shown that you are willing to listen a bit about the new changes, the shrinking of window elements in the UI and such. Please listen to us again on this one. It might seem small and trivial to SOE but to alot of us, it isnt.

Surely the reason for the change is so when the F2P version comes in, and all the WoW players try it out, they will feel more at home (as C is the default in WoW for the character screen - and LOTRO, WAR, etc etc).

Which is fine with me. When I have friends come over, I tidy up and bring out the best silver to make them feel wanted, this is no different. It will, I'm sure, take me all of 2 seconds to go "Oh yes, Z to crouch now" or possibly 5 seconds to remap them back to where I had them before.

Is it really that big a problem for people?

Serious question here - why does anyone crouch? I have never voluntarily crouched in this game.

Seriously, this is what you all are complaining about now?

You can set those keys back to your personal prefference after it goes live. Is it annoying, yes. But it can easily be fixed on your side of things. It's the first thing I did when I logged onto Test, I set "C" to crouch, "I" to the character window, and "Z" to auto-attack.

Helps with preventing running off a cliff or something when you can't control your characters movement.

That is what ive been trying to say but failing.

Id be perfectly happy with all the UI and key binding changes if I could just opt out of the new UI and keep the one I am currently using and have been beating into shape for years.
